a story set in the past that has been passed down from generation to generation

Fairy Tale a folktale that takes place in a magical land ruled by royalty; the characters are either good or evil and almost always has a happy ending Examples: Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty & the Beast, Yeh-Shen Once Upon a Time...

Tall Tale a folktale with unbelievable exaggerations told as if it were true and meant to be humorous Examples: Pecos Bill, Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan Paul Bunyan

Fable a very short folktale where the characters are usually personified animals that teaches a moral or a lesson Examples: Aesop’s Fables, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Boy Who Cried Wolf Toirtoise and The Hare

Legend usually has some connection to a real historical person or event, combining factual and fictional events with exaggerations that are not meant to be humorous Examples: King Arthur (The Sword in the Stone), Robin Hood, Johnny Appleseed Johnny

Myth a folktale that explains something about the world such as frightening or mysterious natural forces or how something came to be Examples: Orpheus, Venus, The Midas Touch Brain Pop

We will be reading 3 folktales. Each folktale has its own assignment to complete. These three activities will be compiled into your LAST quiz grade. Take a few minutes to scan the stories. Choose your three stories and activities.
