Redundancy Protocol Comparison
RSTP MSTP RING ITU G.8032 Authority IEEE (Standardized) Suppliers (Proprietary) ITU Mechanism Peer to peer Multicast Application W/ other brand, <19 switches, Don’t need VLAN redundancy >100 switches, Need VLAN redundancy Single brand, <50 switches W/ other brands support ITU G.8032, >30~50 switches Simplicity Very easy Complicated Easy Lantech easy, Others complicated… Speed Slow, 2~4s (avg.) Slow, >4s (avg.) <15 switches, 10ms <50 switches, 20ms <256 switches, <50ms
12
Why ITU G.8032 ? Benefits : Standardized protocol
Redundancy between Rings The main difference between the ERPS with our original ring redundancy technology – ProRing, Was that the ERPS was support multiple rings environment. The recover mechanism of ERPS not only protect the connection between switches, but also protect the connection between each ring topology. Next, we will have a quick view about how many topologies about multi-ring connection have been approved in our lab.

25
S/I Friendly Features Ring miswiring avoidance
Real time NMS pulling (NMS/Ring packet). Auto ring restore after power back : Even a group of switches has fail, Ring will be back when those switches are back and shown the switch status simultaneously. Fault lights Port lights not and no link up Web U/I shows event
26
Watchdog Loop Protection
When CPU of switch is hanging, the Watchdog will reset the switch. Our switch also has the ability to prevent the loop problem if one or more switch were hanged for some unknown accident. The watch dog will reset the switch and make sure the network will not be in loop status during the reboot procedure.
27
MSTP Redundancy Path of RSTP/ STP can be built up between switches
Redundancy Path of MSTP can be built up between VLAN Groups The RSTP and STP were designed for the redundant connection between each switch. And The MSTP was designed for the redundant connection between each VLAN group.
28
Multicast Control The RSTP and STP were designed for the redundant connection between each switch. And The MSTP was designed for the redundant connection between each VLAN group.
29
Aiming at Users’ Concern
How the equipments were connected by end user? What’s the root cause? Or the problem was caused by environment issue? What’s happening in field ? With some of our cases, There is no network manager in field. If something wrong with the network The end user will call the provider of switch equipment to resolve problem. In this time The guy who is responsible for resolving problem usually want to know these options
30
General Solution : Solve by paying extra money…
Usually we will suggest the customer to use SNMP manage utility to collect information of field and use these information to find what’s wrong in field. But in most of the case of industrial network. There is no budget about manage solution or the end user has no any experience about how to use SNMP solution.
31

Trouble Shooting Tool Use these functions to duplicate the option of network environment then to us. Port statistics Mirror function with Wireshark Export setting file
45
Port Statistics This function provides an overview of general traffic statistics for all switch ports, it can help us to know the network in field was influenced on what kind of packet.
46
Mirror Function with Wireshark
Select the port which you connect with PC. Select the port which you want to duplicate packet. Use Wireshark utility to save these duplicated packets as a file then send to us.
47
Export Setting File Export the setting file of switch then send to us, we will help you to check the setting of switch. More than just trouble shooting… Export Setting File can help you to configure a large network efficiently.
