How? Based on the research work of Dylan William the traffic light target lolly sticks are a good way to randomly select students to answer questions and contribute to whole class thinking Using this idea TLTL also reinforce who is behind, making inline progress or exceeding expectations, and reinforces knowledge of target levels

Why? Not only can TLTL be used for Q&A, but also to check homework, starters, plenaries, groupings, check understanding etc always ensuring you are taking a cross section of those above/below the line and those on the right flight path. This technique encourages self and peer assessment against target levels
