If you live in the area you will have received a pocket guide that will help guide you on the best place for you to go.

Think GP first If you are unwell during the day
Between 8am-6pm, Monday-Friday you will need to ring your GP surgery. Ring up for same day appointments with a health professional in your GP surgery or a GP Surgery near you. Same day appointments are based on need. Think GP first

When your GP surgery is closed
Between 6pm-8am, Monday-Friday and at weekends you should ring NHS 111 You will be seen based on your need and signposted to the most appropriate service. This could be a GP practice close to where you live, known as a Primary Care Service, or an Out Of Hours Service at Peterlee Community Hospital or Bishop Auckland Hospital.

Minor Injury? Examples of minor injury are
Examples of minor injuries are: • Sprains and strains • Broken bones • Wound infections • Minor burns and scalds • Minor head injuries • Minor eye injuries • Insect and animal bites

What else can you do? There’s a lot that you can do at home by having a well stocked medicine cabinet and there’s lots more information on line to help you treat common conditions. We all know that pharmacists dispense medicines, but they do a lot more than that too.
