May 2017 LCCU Meeting VPNs A VPN “creates a secure, encrypted connection, which can be thought of as a tunnel, between your computer and a server operated by the VPN service.” according to PC Mag. No one can see your traffic until it leaves the VPN server and enters the internet. If it uses https, it remains encrypted on the internet, too. For Win 10 VPN settings, go to Settings, Network & Internet, VPN to add and control the connection.

In Chrome on PC Click triple dots at upper right, Settings Sign in to Chrome with your Google account Click “Advanced Sync settings”, and “Choose what to sync”. Uncheck things you don’t want. In Chrome on phone Touch 3-dot button, then your address. Tap “Sync” and sync everything or select data types. In Chrome’s menu select “Bookmarks” to check sync.

To control who sees your posts: To set default, go to down arrow, Settings, Privacy. Select Who can see my stuff, contact me and look me up. To change who can see an individual post, click down arrow in box to left of “Post” and make selection. Note that this may hold until you change it back. To select who can add or see things on your timeline and to control being tagged: go to down arrow, Settings, Timeline and Tagging.

To see updates from a page in your newsfeed, follow the page: go to the page & click “Follow”; it’s listed in the About section of your profile. To show support for a page: like a page: go to the page & click “Like”. You automatically Follow the page, and you may be displayed on the page and in ads about the page. Your friends may also see updates from the page (which could annoy them).

To post on a page: Go to page, click “Join group”. You may need to wait for admin approval Write post in top of page, add photo/ video. Others may see that you’ve joined or are a member. To select what you’re notified about in a group, go to group and click “Notifications” at top right.

By default, it will back up Documents, Pictures, Desktop, Downloads, OneDrive, Music and Video folders, but you can add add or exclude folders. Back up to an external drive or network drive. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Backup, and under “Backup using file history”, select “Add a drive”, and select your drive. This will turn on “Automatically back up my files”. Select “More options” to configure.

“More options” to configure: How often – default is every hour; choices range from every 10 minutes to daily. For how long – default is forever, but choices range from 1 month to 2 years or when space is needed. Which folders – exclude some defaults or add others. Change backup drive – click “Stop using drive”, then “Add a drive”. It can only be configured to backup to one drive at a time. Advanced settings – allow other PCs on network

Restore from File History: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Backup and under “Backup using file history” “More options”, select “Restore personal files”. Files saved on another computer can be restored as well. You can restore previous versions. For a given folder, you can restore deleted files.
