ETSI TC Cable in a nutshell v.2016

2 ETSI TC Cable – main goal
TC CABLE has the primary goal of harmonizing all technical specifications that enable integrated broadband cable and television networks. It is the lead technical committee for the development of ETSI deliverables relating to broadband cable and television networks using hybrid fiber coaxial technology.        The deliverables are in areas including the following: 1 2 Specifications for integrated broadband cable and television network equipment including HFC network distribution 4 3 TC Cable deliverables Specifications for integrated broadband cable and television network terminals, including cable CPE and network terminating devices Specifications for integrated broadband cable and television access network infrastructure, including network topologies and functional requirements, DOCSIS and frequency management Specifications for integrated broadband cable and television services (e.g. voice, data, video) ETSI TC Cable in a nutshell v.2016 1

7 ETSI TC Cable in a nutshell v.2016
ETSI TC Cable – History Backup history In 2009 major players in cable technology development came together to form a cable standardization project within ETSI to ascertain whether the industry's ideas, already tested as sound business objectives via the research and development programs already in place, could be formally standardized by ETSI. Cable industry executives were keen to evaluate the value of standardization through ETSI, given the resources required to do so compared to other standardization models. The project was established under the technical committee ATTM and very quickly encouraged other cable stakeholders to become members of ETSI, in order to support the work. The project then evolved into a working group, ATTM-AT3, which has successfully produced 5 ENs, 25 TSs, and 4 TRs to address the market needs for standardized technology. Also in the course of its standardization work it has established collaboration with other ETSI TCs and external fora including ITU-T SG9 and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE). The developed standards include the ETSI EN series, which is the current international standard for the DOCSIS 3.0 technology capable of providing broadband services in excess of 1 Gbps over existing coax infrastructure. With the formation of ATTM-AT3, organizations involved in the European cable industry have become actively involved in the ETSI standardization process, especially in core standardization activity addressing cable matters. Due to the limited scope of ATTM-AT3, the creation of TC Cable was proposed and approved on Board #89 (September 2012). ETSI TC Cable in a nutshell v.2016 6
