Student Services support for students at Umeå University
Welcome as a student at Umeå University! We hope you will enjoy your education and your time as a student here. In case you should you need it, the university provides different types of support for students. This presentation is about the support that the Student Services provides for students at Umeå University.

This presentation focuses on study guidance, support for students with disabilities and the Student Health Service. At the end of this presentation, we will show you our web pages where you will find our opening hours, how to contact us and more information.

Study Guidance Our study counsellors can help you with questions about: Eligibility and admission procedures Courses and programmes at Umeå University Evaluation of foreign grades Individual guidance to help you plan your future studies Our study conusellors can help you with questions regarding university studies, such as: Courses and programmes at Umeå University Eligibility and admission procedures Evaluation of foreign upper-secondary education Individual guidance to help you plan your future studies Should you start thinking about your choice of education and your ways forward, meeting with a study counsellor may be helpful for you.

Support for students with disabilities
If you have a permanent disability, you can receive pedagogical support. You can get support if you have: Dyslexia Neuropsychiatric disabilities Physical disabilities Mental disabilities Impaired vision or hearing vision Other types of permanent disabilities If you have a permanent disability, you can receive different types of support in connection with your studies. You can get support if you have: Dyslexia, Neuropsychiatric disabilities, such as ADHD, ADD or Aspbergers syndrome, Physical disabilities, Mental disabilities, Impaired vision or hearing, Or other types of permanent disabilities, for example epilepsy, allergies or diabetes.

Support for students with disabilities
Available support Notetaking, extended writing time during examination or specially adapted chairs are examples of support that you can get. Requirements to be able to be granted support Certificate proving your permanent disability Admitted to education at Umeå University So, what kinds of support may be available for you? Some examples are notetaking, extended writing time during examination and specially adapted chairs. To get access to the pedagogical support, you need to have a certificate proving your permanent disability. You also need to be registered for education at Umeå University. If you don´t have a permanent disability but a temporary injury or illness, you are not entitled to receive pedagogical support for disabilities. In such cases, contact your department about the possibility to get support based on your needs.

Student Health Service
You are welcome to turn to us in matters relating to your health situation. This may involve lifestyle issues such as stress, sleep or alcohol habits. We observe confidentiality and all the services are free. There is no doctor working at the Student Health Service. Being in good health is a good foundation for your studies. You are welcome to turn to the Student Health Service in matters relating to your health situation. This may involve lifestyle issues such as stress, sleep or alcohol habits, your study situation or relationships. There is no doctor working at the Student Health Service. We observe confidentiality and all our services are free of charge. If you fall ill during your studies, there are things you need to know. Find more information on the student website. If you need to see a doctor – turn to a local health care center. You are free to choose which health care center to turn to, but you need to make an appointment before going there. Remember to bring your ID and insurance papers. If you need help and guidance on how to get medical care, you are welcome to ask us. Student Health Service
The Student Health Service also provides: Test for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and HIV (during drop in hours to a nurse) Counselling The Student Health Service also provides Test for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and HIV (during drop in hours to a nourse). We also offer individual counselling. You need to make an appointment in advance for counselling.

Aurora – the students’ light and quiet room
Aurora is a room for rest and recovery, provided for students by the Student Health Service. There are daylight lamps, and the room is all in white. Opening hours for Aurora is Monday-Friday You have access with your UmU card. Aurora is the students´ light and quiet room for rest and recovery. Aurora is very popular among international students, because of the bright light in the room. Most students visit Aurora during the dark period when there is less sunlight outdoor. You will find Aurora in the Social Sciences Building, level 1 (next to Campusbokhandeln). The nearest entrance into the building is called Hörsalstorget 6. (In the end of this presentation we will show a film about Aurora.)

You may reach our study counsellors and coordinators for students with disabilities on Mondays-Fridays You can also contact our study counsellors and coordinators for students with disabilities by using the contact form on our website. Please visit Infocenter or to call for all kinds of questions. Find more information about all our support on on the pages under “During your studies”. You are welcome to visit us in Infocenter during our drop in hours from noon to half past one. Drop in to a study counsellor is open Mondays-Fridays. Drop in to a nurse or a social counsellor is open on different week days. The phone number for all our services is (zero-nine-zero seven-eight-six five-zero zero-zero). There are special phone hours to the Student Health Service. You can call our study counsellors and coordinators for students with disabilities on Mondays-Fridays between eight am and five thirty pm. You can also contact our study counsellors and coordinators for students with disabilities by using the contact form on our website. You are always welcome to visit Infocenter (Mondays-Fridays between eight am and five thirty pm) or call (zero-nine-zero seven-eight-six five-zero zero-zero) for all kinds of questions. You are free to choose which health care center you want to visit. The health care centers are open daytime during week days. Remember: always call in advance to make an appointment! Bring your Identification card, your health insurance paper or and your European Health Insurance Card (if you have one) Primary Care Emergency Service If you fall ill during the night or weekend. Is at Ålidhems health care center. First call 1177 and they will advise you where to turn.
