Classification & characteristics of skill

Definition : Skill is being able to achieve a particular objective and involves a sequence of movements learned over a period of time. Eg: Tennis serve

Classification of skill :
DISCRETE SKILLS : Discrete skills have a distinct beginning and end point. Eg: A football punt

SERIAL SKILLS : A serial skill is a combination of discrete skills in succession. Eg: A gymnastics routine

CONTINUOUS SKILLS : Continuous skills have no distinct beginning or end point.

CONTINUOUS SKILLS : Continuous skills have no distinct beginning or end point. Eg: running, cycling, swimming.

CLOSED SKILLS : Closed skills are performed in a predictable or stable environment The timing is controlled by the performer.
