Invite Schedule- NHS Bursaries

Spending Review Implications
From 1 August 2017, new nursing, midwifery, and allied health students will no longer receive NHS Bursaries. They will have access to the same student loan system as other Students. Existing bursary students are unaffected. It’s intended that students studying as a second degree will also be able to access student loans. A consultation is planned end of February/ early March to discuss the implementation of the changes. Expecting higher number of applications due to changes in 2017 and this has been flagged as a risk. We are encouraging early applications so we can plan accordingly and make payment on time when students commence or recommence training. (Applications may take longer to process however paying on time is our primary aim). Appreciate support in encouraging students to apply. MAKE NO STATEMENT REGARDING SPENDING REVIEW – WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFORMATION AT THIS TIME

Childcare reconciliation process
Approx 6,500 students in receipt of the NHS Bursary Childcare Allowance are involved in the reconciliation process. The process has been in place for over 12 months. 2.9m has been raised as debt. Latest forecast shows total annual savings as £6m.
