LEPROSY PATIENTS Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease (HD), is a long-term infection by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae orMycobacterium lepromatosis. Initially, infections are without symptoms and typically remain this way for 5 to 20 years.Symptoms that develop include granulomas of the nerves, respiratory tract, skin, and eyes. This may result in a lack of ability to feel pain and thus loss of parts of extremities due to repeated injuries or infection due to unnoticed wounds.]Weakness and poor eyesight may also be present.

AIDS PATIENTS Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a spectrum of conditions caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).Following initial infection, a person may not notice any symptoms or may experience a brief period of influenza-like illness. Typically, this is followed by a prolonged period with no symptoms. As the infection progresses, it interferes more with the immune system, increasing the risk of common infections like tuberculosis, as well as other opportunistic infections, and tumors that rarely affect people who have working immune systems. These late symptoms of infection are referred to as AIDS . This stage is often also associated with weight loss.

LEPROSY PATIENTS IN PAST AIDS PATIENT IN PRESENT
DIFFERENCES of social acceptance BETWEEN LEPROSY PATIENTS IN PAST AND AIDS PATIENT IN PRESENT LEPROSY PATIENTS IN PAST AIDS PATIENT IN PRESENT Globally leprosy burden has declined sub- stantially. India achieved the elimination (defined as <1 case per 10,000 population) by 2005. Considering the reduced burden of leprosy, since 2005, leprosy services have been integrated with the general health care services. {Socially, the disease leprosy was resulting in social death of the patients since a very long time. A study done in Nepal showed that leprosy patients experienced negative behavior and 95% of the persons affected by leprosy recognized by the community, have visible wounds, swellings and deformity of the feet and hands (de Stigler et al 2000).} The study on the Socio-Economic Impact of HIV and AIDS which was conducted in the six high prevalence states of India, is an important initiative to assess the impact of HIV and AIDS on households and make projections at the macro and sect oral level. The National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) commissioned this study to address the need for concrete evidence on the social and economic consequences of HIV and AIDS in India. A unique feature of this study is the scale of the research. It is noteworthy for its detailed analysis of the phenomenon of stigma and discrimination and of the impact of HIV and AIDS on households, on people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) and their family members.
