Origin Kodomo no hi, or children's day, is celebrated every May 5th in Japan by all children. Originally, however, this holiday celebrated only boys. This was called Tango no Sekku , or boys day. After World War 2 Tango no Sekku was changed to celebrate the health and wellness of all children, instead of just boys.

icons Along with the koinobori, kabuto is also a important icon on Children's day. It is a hat, and can also be included in a dish.

Activities The cultural festival is thrown on May 5th, and many children attend and dress up in kimonos. They play a variety of games at this festival (taiko, shuji, parade, etc.)
