1 The Volunteer Experience
New Faculty Orientation

2 UT’s Big ORANGE Movement
Transform the way we recruit and retain students. Transform the way we serve students. Create a campus and community wide BIG ORANGE recruitment and retention culture. Define the Tennessee Volunteer Experience in ALL that we do. In the Division of Enrollment Management – we set out on this MOVEMENT about 4 years ago with these goals in mind… At a point with the quality of the students we are recruiting – they have options. According to Alexa…. US has 7234 schools 4724 Degree granting institutions including year colleges (National Center for Educational Statistics)

3 Meet The Tennessee Volunteers!
240,000 Alumni Worldwide. XXXX Faculty & Staff. Introduction to Fall 2017 Class: 4900 FTF / 1350 FTT / 22,300 total undergrads Almost all 50 states / mostly in-state as we serve our land-grant and access mission but are also committed to providing a diverse and rich educational experience… 100 countries Behind every number – every stat – is a student… I’d like to try and take you back for a moment. This is without question my WHY. For anyone who read or watched the Ted Talk: Start with Why… this is mine.

4 Defining The University of Tennessee
We are the Volunteers… We – all of us – get to have a moment in creating that moment! And, it’s a powerful one. My goal and mission is for students to carry that excitement throughout their UT experience… and into earning their degree and going out in the world as amazing people shaped by their experience here, and relationships here. YOU have a part in that.

5 The university underwent a strategic plan refresh… focus groups, student surveys… and several themes continued to emerge. Academic Excellence is at the core of what we do… how do we differentiate our programs from those 4600 other universities? Sense of FAMILY, Community The idea that being a Volunteer means something different – leadership and service Sense of place: Knoxville and campus… feeling of HOME, Southern Hospitality / location: smokey mountains, TN River, city Other Themes of Distinction: our color Orange…

6 The Volunteer Experience: Messaging
Not just messaging – we believe in creating an experience… it’s about what you see, hear, touch, taste, and most importantly the feeling we invoke

7 Admitted student card - Defining the Admitted Student Touch

8 What defines us is also in our sense of Place – and we try to tell that story in photos…
