2 Task Name and describe a photograph that has had an impact upon you and state why it did?

3 Unit 31 - Overview This unit will run in conjunction with unit 30 - publishing. The images created within photography will then be used in the production of your magazine. This means that your Photographs will serve the purpose of annotating visually the story you will write and must serve that purpose. L01 will explore the basics of Photography composition and meaning but also consider the range of potential purpose a image may have within differing categories / format.

4 Unit 31 There are five assessment objectives.
1. Analyze a range of professional photographers 2. Be able to plan a photographic shoot 3. Be able to take a range of photographic images for a product. 4. Be able to edit a photographs for a specific product. Be able to present a range of photographic images.

5 Assessment Objective 1 Learners analyse a range of professional photographers and their photographs and their photographic work, including: a) photographic category b) purpose c) image analysis d) meaning This is a pass only task. You will need to analyse at least three different photographic categories: portrait, landscape, war, fashion and surreal. Landscape – Charlie Waite War – Robert Kappa Fashion – Mario Testino

6 Photographic Category
In groups discuss the range of different types of photography that there are. You should also find one image to represent these categories.

7 Assessment objective 1 a) photographic category / genres What is the category being covered by the photographer b) purpose Why is the photograph being taken c) image analysis Analyse the image using, lighting, composition, framing, use of colour or lack of, cropping and fitting, depth of field. d) meaning Use of narrative, visual language You need to analyse two image by the same Photographer within three different catergories/genres

8 Composition and framing
Two images that have been framed and composed in landscape and portrait. This image shows the difference in how you can compose and frame an image with differing focal points.

9 Framing There are a vareity of tehcniques often used within framing however all are used to draw the viewers eye within the image, often working to unveil layers to the image.

10 Rule of thirds Two vertical and two horizontal line that divide up the image creating focus points on the image.

11 Potraits - Analyse this image
Using the criteria previously discussed analyse this image in groups to feedback to the class in ten minutes. Composition - rule of thirds - apply the rule Consider the use of space. Eye line and what it might be conveying.

12 Analysing an image To analyse an image you will need to cover the following. Composition - rule of thirds Lighting - use of shadow Focus - depth of field is the foreground of the background in focus. Framing - How is the image composed where is the subject positioned within the image and why? Cropping - is the image been cropped? What is the narrative of the image or the visual language, suggestions of expression on subject. Mise-en-scene - where is the setting and what does this say about the image

You still need to analyse two more photographic images within the same form. Select from the forms below: war, surreal or fashion.

18 Photographic Categories
Task Research the three photographers you are interested in three different photographic categories. Write a paragraph on your blog that identifies who they are? Why they work within that category? Explain what that category is? Select two images by that photographer that interests you and download the image duplicate the image applying the rule of thirds to one of the images.
