GENERAL AIR DAMPERS In the next few slides we are going to run through the general applications of Air dampers, see the terminology of the actuator parts as well as description of everyday terms used in the field.
3
Belimo as you will know has many applications that we are capable of motorising.
Some of them you will know, like Fire Dampers, Control Dampers and Smoke ventilation Dampers. We have been able to use the Belimo motors in other fields such as Incubators, Fume hoods, windows to name a few. By explaining how the motor works and how we were able to use it in these fields i hope you will see more opppertunity.
4
Belimo motors are mostly 90° turning
We do have linear stroke actuators that move R L L UP / FOWARDS DOWN / BACKWARDS

LM - 5Nm can do approximately 1m² NM - 10Nm can do approximately 2m²
As we have many motors in our different ranges i would like to break it down and give you a some basic guidelines: LM - 5Nm can do approximately 1m² NM - 10Nm can do approximately 2m² SM - 20Nm can do approximately 4m² GM - 40Nm can do approximately 8m² LF - 4Nm can do approximate 0.8m² NF - 7Nm can do approximately 1.4m² AF - 15Nm can do approximately 3.3m² PPT-Vorlage

I would like to break this down and simplify it for you:
We have many adaption's to our products for example we can add switches or have a square shaft in stead of round or we can have modulating control. I would like to break this down and simplify it for you: LM...-S = Actuator with Switches PPT-Vorlage

We have seen the picture with the labels e have seen the Pics of the applications we have seen the break down of the part number now lets look at the terminology of the terms used in the field: Rotary- A movement that is in a left to right movement. Linear - A movement that is up and down. Shaft- The extension of the damper that fits through the actuator. Manual override- The button that allows us to override the gears so we can move the motor.
12
Cable Gland/insert-. The part where the electric cable is
Cable Gland/insert- The part where the electric cable is fixed to the motor. Mechanical stops- The small metal parts on the motor that we can adjust to stop the motor at the required degree of rotation. NM Torque- The measuring unit to measure the resistance or force of a specific item i.e.: damper blade resistance Nm: Newton Meter IP Rating- IP rating is the universal protection rating. IP54 = dust proof IP67 = water proof
13
Housing- The out side of the motor
Spring Return- A motor that has a built in spring, the spring is activated will spring when the power to the motor is interrupted either by a fire, test or power failure and cut cables. Modulating- A way of controlling the motor to move according to the requirements of the controller or the application, we use a 0-10V control signal. 0V closed 10V Open Open/Close- A description for a motor that does nothing other than power open or power close Thermal Trip- A device that is placed in the ducting to act as a sensor for smoke or fire that once tripped will set a motor into the fail safe function. EG °C PPT-Vorlage

Shaft round- A motor that has a built in spring, the spring is activated will spring when the power to the motor is interrupted either by a fire, test or power failure and cut cables. Square Shaft- The square hole in the motor that the damper shaft fits through this is also known as form fit PPT-Vorlage

SAFETY /FIRE RATED MOTORS
Safety motors or Fire rated motors are the range of motors that Belimo has Pioneered and are the market leaders for in Europe. The Fire Rated motors are motors that abide by the Standards of the highest safety regulations. Lets look at the difference between the AF and BF to see the major differences. Its good to know this as the laws IN SA are changing and we are starting to meet up with the EU and American standards for safety. PPT-Vorlage

As seen in the video smoke is the worrying factor in a building as it moves faster than fire and is the main cause of fire related deaths. Up to 80% of all fire related deaths are from smoke inhalation . In SA there are no Regulations as to the specifications of the fire Damper motors. The SABS only requires that the damper remain closed for 2 hours at around 300°C. The rest of the world (Americas/Europe/Asia) the motor is part of the Damper application and just as important to prevent the damper from moving in a safety application. PPT-Vorlage

The AF/LF/NF range all have spring return.
Doesn’t have steel components cannot have built in thermal trips doesn’t have a spring that meets the fire regulations Can only have 1 built in limit switch The BLF/ BF range all have spring return Does have steel components Can have built in thermal trips Does have a spring that will hold once sprung to 1000°C Has a mandatory 2 built in limit switches. Doesn’t have the Certifications to be allowed use in fire applications
Has a round shaft. Doesn’t have the Certifications to be allowed use in fire applications Has a square shaft Has all the requirements to be used in fire safety applications it is the biggest selling fire damper motor in Europe PPT-Vorlage

WATER VALVES AND APPLICATIONS
Valves in a system can be used for various applications fan coil units, bypass, shut off, control of hot and cold water. Belimo has a variety of valves that we offer Butterfly valves, Globe valves, Ball valves, FCU valves and PICCV valves. By understanding the use and operation of the different valves you be more comfortable in using them. PPT-Vorlage
23
The 3 main types of valves.
Ball valve - A valve that is controlled by a ball in the body either for open/close or control Globe valve- A valve that is normally heavy cast iron and has a linear stroke it’s used for mainly for controlling the flow of water. Butterfly valves- A valve that's main operation is for shutoff but has been adapted to be suitable for Control Belimo’s 3 way valve are mixing valves which will be explained in the next few slides. The cold water flows into the valve and mixes with the hot water
As you can see in the 2 way valve (first valve) the water flows directly through and we can only control the volume of water in the system. In the 3 way valve (second Valve) you see the flow of the water coming in from 2 ports and leaving the 3rd it works as follows: Port A is the cold water port B is the hot water Port AB is the mixed water. The cold water flows into the valve and mixes with the hot water To the correct flow and temperature that is preset by the system The water then leaves the valve Through port AB at the correct Flow and temperature to allow for heating or cooling as per the System requirements. 29
As seen in the above diagram you will see the same function as you saw in the Ball valve the difference between the 2 is that the ball valve is rotary and the Globe valve is Linear the Ball valve can only be offered up to 50mm and the globe valve up to 150mm. The operation is as in the Ball valve the water enters through port A and meets the flow from port B they mix and the required flow and temperature then leaves through port AB. PPT-Vorlage
