What it means to be healthy. How to balance your physical, mental/emotional, and social health.

Quick Write Write down at least three words that come to mind when you hear the word “health”. Compare your list with those of your classmates.

What is health? Health is a combination of physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. Physical health = the condition of your body. Mental and emotional health = your thoughts and feelings. Social health = the way you relate to other people.

Maintaining Your Health Balance
Being healthy means keeping your health triangle in balance. Here are some ways to work on all three sides of your health triangle: Physical: Get regular physical activity, eat nutritious foods, and get enough rest. Mental/emotional: Take time to study, to think, and to express your feelings in healthy ways. Social: Spend time with both family and friends.

continued … Remember! Changes you make to one side of your health triangle will also affect the other two sides. For example, if you spend more time playing sports, your physical health will improve. This will also help you feel better about yourself, improving your mental health.
