Journal: Read the following stories and discuss why each individual has an unbalanced triangle. Then, discuss what each teen can do to help the triangle become more balanced. Afterwards, share whether or not you can relate to one of the teens below and how/why. DAN: Dan loves sports. He’s on the swim team and runs track. When he’s not practicing or competing, he likes to read about sports on the Internet. He never seems to have enough time for his family and friends and is often too tired to do his schoolwork. His grades are low, and he’s worried he’ll have to repeat a year. ZOE: Zoe is determined to get good grades—perhaps too determined. She studies hard most evenings and often spends time in the library on weekends. She takes little time to see her friends. Lately, she doesn’t seem to have any friends. She sometimes goes hiking with her family, but rarely gets any other exercise. KIM: Kim is one of the most popular girls in her school. She’s always arranging sleepovers and spends hours texting her friends. She likes all the attention she gets but notices that she’s often tired and grumpy. She always seems to rely on last-minute studying for a test, which stresses her out.

6.) How can you correct it? FIND BALANCE
Make time in your schedule to fit in the areas of the triangle that you are missing…. Combine elements of the triangle For example: If lack physical… If lack social… If lack mental… FIND BALANCE participate in PE! go to a movie with a friend! schedule in some “me” time!

Discuss with a partner:
Based on class discussions, it seems many of you know things we can (and should) do to improve/maintain our physical, mental, and social health. However, we’ve also discussed that many adolescents are not doing these things... Why do you think so many young people take unnecessary risks with their health?
17
Bell Ringer: Today, you will present your health triangles in ~30 seconds or less. Prepare/think about what you will share for the next few minutes… Consider: Is your triangle balanced? What is your favorite part to work on? Share NO MORE than one example from each section
