What is Persuasive Text?
Definition: text written with the intent to persuade or convince the reader of something. Such as persuading you to buy a product, support a specific cause or believe in a certain way. What is Persuasive Text?

Bandwagon A persuasive technique used in media messages that appeals to the “everyone is doing it” mentality.

Exaggeration A hyperbole or overstatement that implies strong feelings or is used to create a strong impression. It is not meant to be taken literally.

Contradiction When two or more statements, ideas, or actions are seen as incompatible.

Misleading Statement A statement within false advertising that’s factually untrue. Can you identify the “misleading statement” in this advertisement?

Testimonial A statement in support of a particular truth, fact or claim; a recommendation.

Sentimental Appeal Type of advertising in which the copy is designed to stimulate one's emotions What message is this advertisement sending it’s viewers about it’s product?

Scare Tactic A strategy using fear to influence the public's reaction.

False Authority Use of authority instead of evidence.

Red Herring Used to distract the audience by presenting a side issue not related to the topic.
