0 Centralist Mexico But then
Mexico won its freedom from Spain in 1821, but it created a “Central Government.” The main government had all of the power. States could not make any decisions. Mexican citizens got tired of: the bad economy not having any say in government policies having Iturbide as their leader (dictatorship) But then People wanted to END the EMPIRE! They wanted a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT that was governed by a CONSTITUTION

1 Centralist Gov’t Federalist
Believes the national (central) government AND state (TX) government should SHARE the power of making the rules and laws for the country. Believes the national (central) (MX) government should make all the rules and laws for the country. This gov’t has ALL the rights. This gov’t gives the STATES RIGHTS!

2 Federalist Mexico The Constitution of 1824
It created a country made up of powerful individual states (a federal government). It created 3 branches of government (separation of powers). It spelled out the powers and duties of each branch (limited government). It established an official religion: Catholicism. It made a constitution that it easy to amend (change).

3 How Did it Affect Texas? It created a new state: Coahuila y Texas that supported a democratic government. made up of districts capital: Saltillo It established a government that was closer to what Anglo colonists were used to. It gave states power to govern their own people including writing their own settlement/colonization laws.
