Table of Contents Introduction Foundations Assessment Policy Education Mitigation Emerging Issues Food Safety Human and animal food safety interventions and activities are an integral part of the public health framework, given the fact food consumption is a vital part of daily life for every human and animal on Earth. It is important that a food safety inspector or investigator understand the tasks that must be done to promote public health and how those tasks impact public health outcomes. If a human or animal food source becomes contaminated, whether accidentally or intentionally, it has the potential to affect a large number of people or animals in a relatively short period of time. Finally, it is critical that practitioners know how to choose the right resources for the job. It is especially important that high quality, appropriate resources, like the ones mentioned on the previous two pages, are used. Some examples of inappropriate resources include: Wikipedia Blogs Outdated material (when new versions exist) Anything that is not vetted or produced by recognized public health or human or animal food safety authorities While these resources may provide good supplemental information they should not be used as primary resources.
