5 The State Patent Bureau (SPB) www.vpb.gov.lt
The SPB was established in 1991. The SPB is under the Ministry of Justice. The SPB is responsible for: - the implementation of the State policy in the sphere of industrial property protection in Lithuania; - administration of the national industrial property system; - increasing awareness of the importance of protection of IP rights.

6 Intellectual Property Rights
Industrial Rights Protection, registered at SPB (Ministry of Justice) Patent Designs Trademarks Topography Intellectual Property Rights Intellectual property rights provide protection for intellectual creations and characteristics. Intellectual property rights are normally divided into copyright and industrial rights protection. “Copyright” refers to the intellectual property rights that provide protection for music, literature and other artistic creation. “Industrial rights protection” is the protection afforded to technical solutions via a patent, the protection for the appearance and form of products via design protection and the protection for trademarks and other product characteristics via trademark protection. 7 Organizational framework
SPB consists of 9 Divisions with 59 employees working therein including: 40 civil servants 19 employees, working under employment contract

8 Financial framework The SPB is the State budgetary agency (all fees are paid directly to the State budget). Every year the total sum of income exceeds the overall expenses. Total expenditure formed 60 % of the revenues. In 2010 the SPB had a revenue at approx Lt (1,8 million EUR). The amount allocated to the SPB from the State budget was approx Lt (1, 07 million EUR).
