2 NCAA Division II Initial-Eligibility Standards

3 Division II Full Qualifier Current Standard
Allowed to practice, receive athletics aid and compete in first academic year; Completion of 16 core courses; Minimum GPA of 2.000; and Test score requirements: 68 ACT sum score; or 820 SAT score (critical reading and math only).

4 Division II Partial Qualifier Current Standard
Allowed to practice and receive athletics aid in first academic year. Completion of 16 core courses with minimum GPA of 2.000; OR Test score requirements: 68 ACT sum score; or 820 SAT score (critical reading and math only).

5 Division II Final Nonqualifier Current Standard
If a college-bound student-athlete does not meet full qualifier or partial qualifier requirements, he/she will be a nonqualifier. A college-bound student-athlete may not practice, receive athletics aid or compete during his/her first academic year at an NCAA Division II college/university.

6 Effective August 1, 2018 Freshman Academic Requirements for Division II
Established sliding scales for initial eligibility. Sliding scale for qualifiers requires a minimum GPA. Sliding scale for partial qualifiers requires a minimum GPA. In order to be a partial qualifier, PSAs must earn 16 core courses. Effective Date: August 1, 2018, for SAs initially enrolling in a collegiate institution on or after August 1, 2018. 7 Core Curriculum – Division II
Core requirements have not changed. 16 core requirement: 3 years English. 2 years math (algebra 1 or higher). 2 years science (including 1 lab, if offered). 3 years Additional English, math or science. 2 years social science. 4 years additional core.

8 Grade-Point Average – Division II
Beginning Aug. 1, 2018, you must earn at least a 2.2 GPA in NCAA core courses along with the corresponding required test score to compete in Division II sports as a college freshman.   To be able to practice and receive a scholarship, you must earn at least a 2.0 GPA along with the corresponding required test score in NCAA approved core courses. Only NCAA approved core courses will be used in the GPA calculation when determining eligibility A sliding scale is used to match test scores and core GPAs

9 Test Scores – Division II
Only the critical reading and math portions of the SAT will be considered for eligibility purposes. The writing score will not be used. Only the sum of English, math, reading and science ACT scores will be considered for eligibility purposes. A sliding scale is used to match test scores and core GPA.

Who should register? Any student-athlete interested in Divisions I or II. Registration options: Certification Account: $80 Domestic, Canada or US territories. $135 International. Fee waiver eligible? Profile Account: No charge. May be converted to certification account. Member Institutions cannot see or activate.

12 Eligibility Center Step One-Registration
When? While in high school or prior to transferring. Keep accounts updated! Certification Account registration required for official visits and IRL activation. Correct enrollment period is important and is based on initial DI/DII enrollment. Why? To establish initial-eligibility academic status if necessary. Student-athletes without an initial-eligibility academic decision are considered nonqualifiers for transfer purposes. All students must receive amateurism certification prior to competing at a Division I or Division II institution.

What is needed to get an academic certification? Paid registration certification account. Official transcripts from all secondary schools attended. Proof of graduation. Test scores taken prior to full-time collegiate enrollment. Submitted electronically using code 9999. No active IRL-Must ask for a certification. Student-athletes should identify themselves as a 2-4 transfer in need of an academic decision. Push back from the NCAA staff? Be persistent-make sure we know why you are asking.

15 Eligibility Center Step Two – Getting Reviewed (contd.)
Timeline once request entered. No specific service standard. Requests accepted throughout the year. Why might we be unable to move forward? Missing documents or clarification needed. Tasks are assigned. High school or nontraditional program not cleared. NCAA Institution involvement required if… Post graduate coursework or test scores. Validation of coursework needed. NCAA institution must engage.

16 Eligibility Center – International Student-Athletes
Initial-eligibility requirements are the same for international student- athletes. Need transcripts from year 9 and up and proof of graduation. ACT or SAT scores are required. Only scores completed prior to full-time collegiate enrollment are usable. Official documents are required and must be mailed. Native language and line-by-line translation required. 17 Eligibility Center – Amateurism
All student-athletes must be certified in amateurism prior to competing at a DI/DII institution. Amateurism certification is electronically requested by the student-athlete shortly before DI/DII enrollment. April 1 for fall enrollees. October 1 for winter/spring enrollees. Accounts requiring the NCAA amateurism staff review must be on an active IRL. Academic records from high school are often required even if the student-athlete has their AA or is academically eligible. If needed tasks will be assigned.

Qualifier with no four-year attendance and ONLY one full-time semester/quarter at two-year institution All other qualifiers, partial qualifiers and nonqualifiers ONLY one full-time semester/quarter Two full-time semesters/three full-time quarters 12 semester or quarter hours of transferable degree credit. 12-semester or 12-quarter-hours of transferable degree credit per term of attendance: Six- semester/eight-quarter hours of transferable English; Three-semester/four-quarter hours of transferable math; and Three-semester/four-quarter hours of transferable science. Graduate Cumulative GPA of 2.200 Limit of two physical education activity credits for credit requirements and GPA.

21 Division II Two-Year College Transfer Requirements
Practice and financial aid available to qualifiers and partial qualifiers who do not meet the requirements. Practice and financial aid available for nonqualifier who meets all the two-year transfer requirements EXCEPT the GPA but has a minimum GPA. Exception to physical education activity requirements. If enrolling at four‐year institution in physical education degree or degree in education with activity course requirement.

Important things to remember: Student-athlete’s transcript does not necessarily tell the whole story. Knowing initial full-time enrollment sets the basis for more than just transfer and progress-toward-degree. Start of five-year clock.

Not a Qualifier Meet all conditions of a Qualifier PLUS: Six/eight hours transferable English, three/four math, three/four science.

31 Best Practices Monitor the calendar-year elapse requirement from the four-year institution. Average of 12 credit hours must be earned at the two-year institution (part-time hours must transfer back). Different standard for qualifiers and nonqualifiers (core- course requirements). Midyear transfers in baseball and basketball not eligible for competition immediately.
