Importance of Junior Year: The Challenge
Junior year can be very challenging Most students take courses in 5 core areas Level of rigor increases Get help when needed! (utilize teachers and tutor list on NHS website) Junior year grades will be the most current grades on transcripts sent to colleges The people making admissions decisions will look for trends in your grades. Is there an improvement each year of high school or a decline?

Technical Programs offered through NHS Hare Chevrolet Automotive Program (Open to Juniors and Seniors) Dual Credit Program with Ivy Tech Students have the opportunity to earn 15 Ivy Tech credits per school year! ABC Construction Program (Open to Juniors and Seniors) J. Everett Light Career Center (Open to Juniors and Seniors) CNA Program (Open to Juniors and Seniors) NHS Internship Program All seniors (college and non-college bound) have the opportunity to do an internship if they are on track with their graduation requirements! Exploring Your Options Outside of School
Beginning in the Junior year, students have 3 excused absences each semester which may be utilized for: College Visits Military Visits Job Shadowing Arrange visit outside of school Parent/guardian calls absence in to attendance line Return Visit Form sign by a representative from the organization the student attended to Mrs. Toms in attendance

PSAT Morning of Wednesday, November 2, 2016 NO MAKE-UP TEST DATE!!!
Please do not schedule any appointments for this morning! There is absolutely no way to take the PSAT if you are not here the morning of November 2. This is the only way for juniors to qualify for National Merit Scholarships Students who do not score a certain level may have to complete additional testing in the spring and remediation. (Accuplacer) Bottom Line: It is important for students to do their best!

ACT and SAT Both are college entrance exams
Most colleges accept either the SAT or ACT Students are recommended to take these for the first time beginning 2nd semester of their junior year SAT and ACT scores are a factor in college admission decisions and merit based scholarship decisions

Noblesville High School SAT Prep class: Prepares students for the May test date (Information available following Winter break) The College Board FREE! Khan Academy: FREE! ACT FREE! ACT Kaplan Online List of private tutors is available on the Guidance Section of the Noblesville High School website.

ACT & SAT: Testing Dates at NHS
December 10, ACT January 21, SAT February 11, 2017 – ACT May 6, 2017 – SAT June 10 , ACT Register for the SAT at Register for the ACT at 21st Century Scholars and students receiving free/reduced lunch are eligible to receive a fee wavier Students wishing to request accommodations such as extended time should talk with their guidance counselor this semester.

College Application Timeline
End of Summer: College Application Boot Camp August 1 of senior year: Date when most applications become available online October 1 of senior year: Students may begin submitting FAFSA using tax information November 1: Priority Deadline for several universities *Make sure your student is aware of all important deadlines March: Many colleges begin notifying students of financial aid packages May 1: Deadline to accept admission to many colleges

NCAA All juniors who may play a Division I or Division II sport must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center College-bound student athletes must let their counselor know they plan to play a sport in college At end of junior year, students need to request their transcripts be sent to NCAA through Parchment NCAA Eligibility Requirements can be viewed at: Students who plan to play at a Division III college do not need to register with the NCAA Students who plan to play at a NAIA college should register with the NAIA at:

Scholarships Juniors can begin national scholarship searches:
Naviance During senior year, scholarships are posted throughout the year on Naviance. Local scholarships will be posted in March of the Senior year.

Naviance Noblesville High School’s database for all things related to college and career College Visits are posted in Naviance Students request transcripts be sent to colleges on Naviance Scholarships are posted on Naviance Career assessments are available on Naviance Research colleges through Naviance All students have an account and parents are able to set up an account Naviance 101 guide may be downloaded from the Guidance website To get to Naviance, go to the NHS website, and open the students tab to the right. Click on the link to Naviance toward the bottom of the Students menu. Log in with your 6 digit student ID and NHS network password. A “Naviance 101” guide can be found in the Guidance section of the NHS website. This guide includes detailed instructions on how to navigate through the many tools available in Naviance. All juniors viewed a video this fall about using Naviance. This video can also be found in the Guidance section of the NHS website.
