1 Tell you a bit about NASA Science.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration K-12 Teachers Learn about the Hurricane and Severe Storm Sentinel (HS3) Mission and Connect with Airborne Scientists Bernadette Luna, Shaun Smith, Linda Sherman, Joyce Winterton, Emily Schaller Tell you a bit about NASA Science.

2 K-12 Teachers Connect to Airborne Scientists In-Flight
NASA Armstrong “Airborne Research Experience for Educators” workshop brought 25 teachers from across the US to the AERO Institute in Palmdale, CA for a 5-day intensive workshop to learn about computer programming, engineering design, HS3 and ATTREX missions, and grant writing (July 28- August 1) NASA Wallops HS3/GPM/SMAP brought 28 teachers from across the US for a 5-day intensive workshop to learn about the HS3, GPM and SMAP missions, airborne science and NASA/GSFC/WFF educator resources (August 4-8) As part of each workshop, teachers learned how to use the NASA Mission Tools Suite for Education (MTSE) website to connect their classrooms to the upcoming Hurricane and Severe Storm Sentinel mission and other airborne science missions throughout the school year During both workshops, the DISCOVER-AQ mission was flying over Colorado measuring air quality from the NASA P-3 aircraft. Using MTSE, the workshop teachers were able to chat directly in real-time with scientists flying onboard the NASA P-3 over Colorado. Students from Dan Menear’s 6th grade class at Pittsville Middle School chat “live” with Emily Schaller in Maryland. AREE Master Educator Jalel Ben Hmida, a math and statistics teacher at Lafayette High School in Louisiana, provides an introduction to computer programming utilizing the Arduino microcontroller to teachers participating in the 2014 AREE workshop. Emily Schaller
