Spelling FUNdations Program Building on learning from Kindergarten and Grade 1 Emphasizes phonemic awareness (words are made up of discreet sounds), phonics (the letter-sound correspondence) and high frequency words through teacher modeling and active learning.

How Families Can Help Second Graders Succeed
Check in about your child’s day Ask specific questions… “Show me what are you learning in math?” “Who did you eat lunch with today?” Have an open line of communication with school Provide a quiet place to read and do any homework Help your child to get a good nights sleep

How Families Can Help Second Graders to Become Lifelong Readers and Mathematicians!
Be a “reading role model” Establish a regular reading time Read aloud (involve siblings) Take a trip to your public library Get them hooked on a book series Give books as gifts Include your child in everyday math like cooking, going grocery shopping, or rolling change Play games that involve math such as Monopoly, cribbage, or Scrabble Be positive about math—math is fun!
