Plate Tectonic Anchor Assessment: DAY 1
Using the blank paper, develop your own world of plate tectonics. You will use the concepts of plate tectonics and mountain building to make your world map geologically correct. (Using scratch paper to start a rough draft is highly recommended.) To start, draw random lines that when connected in a random pattern they will equal 7 lithospheric plates. You will have to slowly add labels of oceanic or continental crust, and arrows showing movement of each plate, and their appropriate features. As you progress through the assessment, you may find that a feature doesn’t fit or is missing in your world, then add another plate so the feature(s) may be added. To fit all the features and develop a correct geologic map you will have to keep checking and double-checking all boundaries and features. Use the checklist to help mark off features as you add them.

Plate Tectonic Anchor Assessment: DAY 1
7 lithospheric plates (You may have to add more plates to fit all required features.) 3 must contain continents Arrows showing plate movement Correctly plotted earthquakes on every boundary (shallow, intermediate, deep) Correctly plotted volcanoes on correct boundaries 2 Volcanic island arc with 4 islands (volcanoes) 4 Trenches 2 Continental volcanic arc 1 Non-volcanic mountain ranges 1 Mid oceanic ridge 1 Rift valley 1 Transform fault boundary

3) As you progress through the assessment, you may find that a feature doesn’t fit or is missing in your world, then add another plate so the feature(s) may be added. 4) To fit all the features and develop a correct geologic map you will have to keep checking and double-checking all boundaries and features. Use the checklist to help mark off features as you add them. **Add earthquakes to each boundary. See your notes/ chart for clarification.

Plate Tectonic Anchor Assessment: DAY 3
**Start your final draft 6) Each map must have these finished details: Key and/or legend developed (see class example) Each plate colored Each feature or features colored Boundaries color coded Every plate and geologic feature(s) must be named **Think of your theme to name your map items.

7) Analysis Chart: Using the boundary analysis chart, analyze “your world’s” plate tectonics. Fill in the chart for the minimum of the requirements even though your world may have several examples of a feature. 8) Peer Critique: Have one of your peers critique and check your work.
