Around the Room The Song dynasty improved the system of working for the government when hiring many people to from a bureaucracy. Through civil service government officials helped improve the Song dynasty. People who worked in civil service had to pass an exam before becoming scholar officials This insured that candidates has strong incentive to do well. To become a high-ranking scholar-official someone would have to pass a series of civil service exams.

Empress Wu Handout The next few lessons we will do center on achievements and inventions during the Tang and Song Dynasty. One person who was very famous for ther achievements was Empress Wu who ruled during the Tang Dynasty. To help us get a sense of who she was and what she accomplished, we are going to: read about her mark our text answer the questions on the back of the reader in complete sentences.
