21. The date of December 25th for Christmas came from...
Roman Sol Invictus Other Pagan holiday A German holiday The conception of Jesus at Passover
44
21. The date of December 25th for Christmas came from...
21. The Conception of Jesus at Passover. See last week’s message. Contrary to the false info spred today, the Christmas date of December 25th has NOTHING to do with a pagan holiday. The date was known BEFORE Sol Invictus. Tertullian in 200A.D. (74 years before Sol Invictus) shared the calculation of conception from lunar to Solar calendar – Nisan 14 = March 25th. 9 months to the day later is Dec. 25th. The Asian/Mid East early church celebrated the conception. African/Western the birth.
45
Matthew 1:18-25 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.
46
Matthew 1:18-25 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
47
Matthew 1:18-25 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
48
Matthew 1:18-25 24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.

Part One: The Real People in Real Christmas Story
53
Part Two: The Legends of The Real Christmas Story
54
The Santa vs. The Jesus Christmas?
55
Saint Nicholas was a bishop in Greece in the 4th Century.
56
The Santa vs. The Jesus Christmas?
Saint Nicholas ~ bishop in Greece in the 4th Century. Gave gifts to poor children ~Patron Saint of Children ~Dec. 6th. The Protestant Reformation came; Luther and Calvin etc. said we no longer venerate saints.
57
The Santa vs. The Jesus Christmas?
What about Saint Nicholas Day? In Germany they moved it to Christmas Eve and instead of waiting for St. Nicholas they were then waiting for the Christ Child. In German, Christ Child was “Christ kindl” which in English became Kris Kringle.
58
The Santa vs. The Jesus Christmas?
Saint Nicholas & Protestant Reformation Germans - “Christ Child” = Kris Kringle. (So what about the Dutch?) The Dutch pronounced Saint Nicholas “Sinter klaas.” So, the Dutch kids are running around New York City saying, “Sinter klaas is coming. Sinter klaas is coming.” People thought they were saying “Santa Klaus.”
59
The Santa vs. The Jesus Christmas?
So the Germans were waiting for “Kris Kringle” (The Christ Child) and the Dutch Sinter Klaas, ie Santa Claus (St. Nicholas).
60
The Santa vs. The Jesus Christmas?
Who is Santa really? The honoring of Saint Nicholas, a man who loved Jesus so much that he gave away everything he had to help people in need.
61
The Santa vs. The Jesus Christmas?
Kids need to understand the real meaning of Santa represents giving to others because we love Jesus, and Kris Kringle is just poorly spoken German remembering the “Christ Child”
62
The Santa vs. The Jesus Christmas?
Psychologist Dr. James Dobson cautions that by age 5 you need to clarify between fun fantasy and reality. “Santa” can be fun, but confusing to child. Use wisdom and caution and teach truth.
63
The Santa vs. The Jesus Christmas?
Explain the story and give the REAL account by reading the Bible on Christmas Eve/Day before opening presents.
64
Mistaken Legends of Christmas?
“The Little Drummer Boy” is NOT in the Bible. (originally known as "Carol of the Drum") was written in 1941 by Katherine Kennicott Davis.
65
Part Three: The Lost of the Real Christmas Story
66
God isn’t lost; people are.
67
“Human beings lose a lot when they aren’t connected to God; We lose our direction, God’s protection, our potential, our happiness, and our future home in Heaven — just to name a few. But there’s one thing we don’t lose: our value.” RW
68
Being called “Lost” is NOT a put-down
69
“Some people believe calling someone spiritually lost is a put-down
“Some people believe calling someone spiritually lost is a put-down. But it’s not. It’s actually a great compliment to be called spiritually lost. There’s a difference between losing something and misplacing something. If I misplace something, it means it wasn’t important to me. But if I lose it, it’s valuable enough for me to try to find it. You misplace a bobby pin; you lose your glasses.” RW
70
“Jesus loved lost people. He loved spending time with them
“Jesus loved lost people. He loved spending time with them. He went to their parties. From the Gospels it is obvious that Jesus enjoyed being with seekers far more than being with religious leaders. He was called the “friend of sinners.” (Luke 7:34)”.
71
Your place in Christmas is either as the lost or seeking them out.
72
The Lost Need… To know there is a rescuer…
To know that Jesus understands your deepest needs. To connect with their Heavenly Father.
73
Your place in Christmas is either as the lost or seeking them out.
