1. Attendance How Attendance is Marked and Recorded
Attendance is measured and recorded for each course weekly.
Students who complete all of the weekly assignments by the due date/time are not marked absent.
Students who miss the due date/time for one or more but not all assignments will be marked absent for one day for the week the assignments were due.
Students who do not complete any assignments by the due date/time will be marked absent to two days of the week that the assignments were due.
Students will be allowed to make up the missed work but the absences will stand unless the parent/guardian has communicated with the teacher and presented an appropriate excuse.

2. Attendance
According to Georgia School Law, the following reasons are considered excused absences:
A student is ill and attendance would endanger the health of others
An immediate family member (parent/guardian, sibling, grandparent, aunt or uncle) is seriously ill or has died
Mandated government agency: court order, subpoena, note from County Clerk
Celebrated religious holiday
Conditions rendering attendance impossible or hazardous to health or safety
Registering to vote or voting
Serving as a Page of the General Assembly
The student will be allowed one business (school) day to submit missed assignments for each day he/she had an excused absence.

3. Attendance Consequences
If a student has excessive absences the student and/or the parent may be referred to the School Social Worker, Juvenile Court, State Court and/or the Department of Family and Children Services. A parent/guardian who violates the compulsory education law may be guilty of a misdemeanor and may be subject to a fine, imprisonment, community service or any combination of penalties at the discretion of the court having jurisdiction. Each day’s absence from school is considered a violation.
In addition, any student who is not making appropriate progress and accrues excessive absences can be dismissed from FVA.

4. Attendance Illness/Extended Inability to Participate
If an unexpected situation should arise and there is a need for an extended leave from the course, the following steps should be taken:
Contact the course instructor to explain the situation.
Report the problem to the FVA Director or student’s School Counselor
Discuss class alternatives with the instructor.
The instructor will document and notify the Director regarding any special accommodations regarding the make-up/missed work.

5. Attendance Make-up/Late Work
It is the student’s responsibility to turn in make-up work when he/she is able to return from an illness or inability to participate. Parents/guardians are encouraged to monitor the completion of all assignments through Parent Portal and itslearning, especially those that are due if the student is absent. The student has one school (business) day from the assigned due date for each day absent to submit the make-up work. The instructor has the discretion to grant a longer make-up period if there are extenuating circumstances.
A student may have from five to twenty-five points deducted from the grade on the assignment if the work is 1 – 15 days late. After 15 days late, the teacher does not have to accept the work.
Absences will not be changed when late work is submitted unless the instructor chooses to modify the record.
Certificates of Enrollment
Students must request the Certificate of Enrollment for the purpose of obtaining a driver’s permit/license from the Administrative Assistant at ext Please allow three days for the Certificate to be prepared.

6. Assignments/grading/reporting
Assignment Due Dates
All assignments have specific due dates that are outlined in the course planner/syllabus/calendar. The student will be marked absent when is not submitted by the posted due date and time. Make-up/late work will be accepted according to the late work procedure.
Working Ahead on Assignments
Students may choose to work ahead on any assignments/units that the instructor has made available for the students to view. All due dates still apply if the student chooses to work ahead.
Standard Grading Scale
Each graded activity in an FVA course will be assigned a final grade. The grade may be in points (e.g. 10 out of 20 points) or in percent correct (e.g. 95%.) At the end of the course the final numerical grade for the course will be posted on the student’s transcript in the Student Record database.

7. Assignments/grading/reporting
Monitoring Student Progress and Grades
Parents must take an active role in monitoring student grades and progress. Parents and students are able to monitor academic progress through itslearning and grades through Parent Portal.
itslearning: Parents and students will be able to see when an assignment has been submitted. If the green ‘completed’ tag is not showing, this means the assignment has not been completed or turned in.
Portal: Parents and students are able to monitor grades through Portal. Teacher will enter grades into Portal weekly. Assignments that are not turned in will be marked as ‘Missing’ in the grade book. Contact the teacher immediately if you suspect an error in the grade book.

8. Assignments/grading/reporting
Final Exams
All courses will have final exams or culminating projects.
Middle school students will complete all final exams or culminating projects.
High school students who earn a 90 or higher in the course may be exempt from the final exam or culminating project.
EOG’/EOC’S
All middle school students will take the state mandated End of Grade assessments.
High School students in one or more of the eight End of Course courses will take the appropriate EOC.
EOG’s and EOC’s must be taken in the face-to-face testing environment at 1130 Dahlonega Hwy, Cumming, GA Test dates and times will be communicated through itslearning and the FVA website in a timely manner.
AP Exams
Students enrolled in AP courses may choose to take the AP exams. Information about cost, dates, times and registration procedures will be ed to parents and students in a timely manner.

9. ASSIGNMENTS/GRADING/REPORTING
Progress Report/Report Cards
The student’s continuous progress can be monitored through Parent Portal. Grades are ‘live’ depending on student’s submission of work and the teachers’ posting the grades. Hard copies of report cards will not be issued by FVA.
