These are designed to be great touch first companions to the traditional desktop offerings of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. They are perfect for consuming, light editing, and presenting content. When should I use Office universal apps instead of Office Online? Use Office universal apps when you are seeking a smooth, animated experience on touch and small screen devices, for their responsiveness, support for offline, lower memory footprint, and integration with Windows 10. When should I use the Office universal apps instead of the Office desktop apps?
