Concept: Learn by Doing WHAT IS CIS4914: CISE Senior Project? “Capstone Course” for the CSC Online Degree Program Bring together all you have learned in your CSC classwork Create and implement a software or software-mostly project Present your results before your peers and course coordinator Write a Final Report (8-11 pages) that describes your project WHY IS CIS4914-Online USEFUL for Your Career? Provides an educational platform for independent or team work on a software project & reinforces technical presentation & writing skills

COURSE ORGANIZATION Registration Procedure (what this presentation is about) Class Meets Irregularly throughout the semester Meeting #1 – Organizational Meeting (second week of semester) Meeting #2 – Time Management and Presentation Skills (fourth week) Presentations #1 and #2 – Concept and Design Overviews (respectively, the Fifth and Ninth week of Fall and Spring semesters) Final Presentation – Summary of Your Project Results, with Demo (usually the last week of the semester) ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY FOR ALL MEETINGS & PRESENTATIONS

Create and Implement an INDEPENDENT or TEAM Project Project may be your own idea or be chosen from an online list You may work with your Advisor alone, or in a team of 2-3 people Project may be a continuation of work for a previous internship Develop and Enhance Your Presentation Skills Three Microsoft PowerPoint presentations Speaking before your Peers – with questions and answers Develop and Enhance Your Technical Writing Skills Develop concise, accurate written communications in a formal professional written context

YOU – The Student Choose a project, find an advisor or team, and Register for Course Develop and implement your Project Meet Regularly with your Project Advisor (weekly or twice-weekly) Attend all Meetings and Presentations Provide your Final Report to your Advisor before Final Presentation PROJECT ADVISOR We prefer the Advisor to be UF Faculty or Outside IT Manager Advisor CANNOT be a Family Member or Personal Friend COURSE COORDINATOR – Reviews your work, Calculates grade

Obtain a Project and Advisor During First Week of Class Download the CIS/CEN 4914 Registration Form URL: Complete Top Portion of Form (Your Info + Project Info) Fill in Advisor Info –and– Get Advisor’s Signature on Form This is your Project Advisor, NOT the Course Coordinator Check Form to Be Sure You Completed Everything except the Advisor’s Signature (they have to sign) and Course Coordinator’s Signature Form to CIS4914 Instructor by end of first week Image credit: M.S.
