38 ALIEN AND SEDITION ACT: The Federalists made it illegal for Republicans to criticize the government!!!

39 The Alien Act gave the President the legal right to expel from the country people he considered "dangerous." The Sedition Act punished "false, scandalous and malicious" writings against the government with fines and imprisonment. Most of those arrested under the Sedition Act were Republican writers who criticized Federalists and their policies.

JAY’S TREATY DEALT WITH THE FOLLOWING Britain was still occupying a number of forts on U.S. territory in the Great Lakes region. They agreed to leave these forts. The border with Canada became more clear. Did not deal with impressment problem. Republicans did not like the treaty…hated Britain
