7. Academic calendar for 2016/17
Teaching block 1 (Autumn) is 12 weeks, as usual
Winter vacation is 3 weeks this year
Teaching block 2 is also 12 weeks
Easter vacation is 2 weeks
The resit period is 10th-21st July 2017
The resit coursework submission deadline will be Tuesday 11th July (this needs confirmation)

11. Becoming a Student Ambassador
UWE students with the right to work in the UK can apply to become a Student Ambassador. The application period is open from on Tuesday 20th September to on Monday 17th October Interviews will take place in November/December 2016 with training following over January/February Full details about the scheme and how students can apply can be found on the Student Ambassadors webpage

12. Becoming a Student Ambassador
What is the role of a Student Ambassador?
As an Ambassador, you would primarily support the student recruitment and outreach activities as well as getting involved with marketing and faculty work including:
Open Days.
Applicant Days.
Welcome and course inductions.
Photography and filming.
Presentations and interactive workshops on campus and in schools and colleges.
Facilitating student life talks for students at schools and colleges.
Supporting our widening participation activities.
Provide campus tours.
UCAS and HE recruitment fairs across the South West and UK.
Course-specific interviews.

13. Becoming a Student Ambassador
STEM Student Ambassador
Further training will be provided to UWE Ambassadors who want to become STEM Ambassadors. Specific STEM training will be provided by staff from FET and will take place in conjunction with generic student ambassador training.
STEM Ambassadors support the University through a wide range of events some of which include:
BoxED - STEM activities in a box
STEM School Activity Days
Bloodhound and EDF
Technology clubs

14. BoxED
UWE BoxED is a school focused outreach programme of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) related activities. The overall aim of the programme is to keep more young people interested in STEM and improve the numbers of students from our region going into further and higher education. The activities are designed for Years 5-12 (ages 9-17). This is a key age range when young people are making decisions to stick with (or move away from) STEM subjects.
The delivery of the programme is on the school site, but the activity is led by UWE Bristol students. This provides a personal connection to the idea of going to university. It offers the school students role models who can demonstrate to them that it is cool to be excited about learning.
