2 Concept 1 Need statement
Client has weak muscles and struggles picking up things creating issues when carrying groceries and other goods into his home. We need a way to help the client carry goods from his van to his counter while not compromising his balance or causing injury.

3 Concept 1 background Lack of muscle strength can be caused by a number of reasons Current methods to solve the problem. Market analysis Aging population 55% of adults aged 60 and over with difficulty rising from a chair by muscle strength That is 5 M over 60 and more than 2.5 million people who face this problem. According to the American Public Health Association costs ~ $22,000 a year per patient ~55 billion $ annually people who have chronic diseases or nerve conditions that can damage the muscles such as MS.

4 Concept 1 walker hi-low A combined walker and lifting device which allows client to easily and safely transport heavy groceries from car to house ~12-14 weeks Expected outcomes  Client will decrease the risk of falling and be able to transfer heavy groceries easily by using one device  

5 Concept 2&3 Need statement
Client has balance issues and trouble raising legs making it difficult to enter and exit van safely. We need a way to help him enter and exit van which does not compromise stability and is operable by a single person.

6 Concept 2&3 background Current Methods Market Analysis
Approximately 10.5 million elderly people report difficulty walking or climbing. (US Census Bureau) Those with leg or hip injuries or weakness Walking Assist Device Market Expected to Reach 6.57 Billion USD by (Markets and Markets)   

7 Concept 2 car stairs A set of stairs which folds over stairs on Clients’ existing steps Must be Operable by a single person Must be able to support client’s weight Expected to take 18 Weeks Expected to be Relatively expensive Expected Outcomes ~ Client will be able to safely enter and exit van with minimal risk of falling

8 Concept 3 leg lifting cane
A cane which also acts as a leg lifter To be Used while seated Allows client to lift legs easily into car or onto stool Inexpensive Expected to take 12 weeks Expected Outcomes ~ Client will be able to use a single device to walk, and lift legs into vehicle or stool.
