Mrs. Heil TVMS School Year Language Arts & Writing About Me My name is Jenna Heil, and this will be my fourth year teaching in the Tri-Valley School District. I graduated from Muskingum College in 2008 and I hold a Master’s degree in Middle Childhood Education. I am proud to say that I’m a Tri-Valley alum. I currently live in Adamsville with my husband and nineteen month old daughter, where we raise and show cattle. I enjoy cooking, reading, and spending time with family and friends. I’m looking forward to the start of a new school year. Communication The best way to contact me is through . Course Description Welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts and Writing! As a class we will focus on learning and developing skills as writers, learners, readers, and listeners. It is extremely important to master these skills in the classroom and outside the classroom to achieve success in school and life. During the year, we will spend time reading and analyzing novels and the steps to writing complete paragraphs and essays. Classroom Rules & Consequences Behavior is something that is taken very seriously in the classroom. It is important to have a positive behavior to ensure that everyone has an environment to succeed in their learning. Arrive on time with all materials. Do not talk when others are talking especially during announcements. Raise hand and wait to be called on before speaking. Ask to leave the classroom. Phones and electronic devices will be used in the classroom at the discretion of Mrs. Heil. Once you arrive in the classroom all cellphones and electronic devices will be placed on Mrs. Heil’s desk. The bell does not dismiss you, Mrs. Heil dismisses you. Classroom Procedures You should arrive to class on time and be ready to learn before the bell rings. This means you will be sitting in your assigned seat, phones/electronic devices placed on Mrs. Heil’s desk, and materials out and ready for the warm-up.

Class Webpage & Remind If you arrive tardy to class, you will receive three warnings. After the third warning, you will receive a lunch detention and a note will be sent to the office. The office will handle any tardy after the third offense. If students are absent, they must make sure they check the designated “Absent” station to obtain the work that was missed. Students have one day for each day they were absent to turn in the work. For example, if a student is absent for one day, they would have one day after returning to class to turn in the work. If a student were absent for three days, they would have three days to turn in missing work. Students need to make sure they write “Absent” on the work turned in so that they are not penalized. If a student is absent, they will be able to make-up any tests or quizzes that were missed during their absence. They may be asked to come in during a study hall period to complete the work. Late work will be accepted with points deducted. If you are turning in late work, please place all work in the Late Tray. All assignments should be completed in pencil and include your first and last name, period, and date. Always ask to leave the room. If you need to use the restroom or run to your locker, you will owe Mrs. Heil a restroom pass. You will then sign out and return as fast as possible. You should ALWAYS bring an AR book with you. Random checks will occur throughout the quarter. Go to Click on Tri-Valley Middle School Click on Teacher Webpages on the left-hand side Click on Heil, Jenna I highly suggest that you check the webpage often. It is a great way to stay on track if absent. I will update it often with important announcements and important reminders. I also ask that you signup for text alerts from Remind. Accelerated Reader Every quarter, AR will make up 10% of your English grade. Below are the four requirements for AR: Reaching your point goal Averaging an 85% or higher passing rate Reading on or above your level Reading two nonfiction books and one fiction book Supplies **These supplies are to be purchased and brought to class by Tuesday, September 5.** Language Arts 5 subject notebook 1.5” binder 5 tab dividers Pencils Pencil top erasers Notebook paper (filler) Index cards (optional) Disinfectant Wipes (optional- will receive extra credit Writing 2nd Period Crayons (box of 24) 4 Glue sticks 6th period Bottle of glue Colored pencils (box of at least 12) Homework Expectations Students will be expected to complete homework at home or during study hall. It is expected that homework be turned in the following day. Late work is frowned upon and points will be deducted. More information on this policy will be explained in call. Most reading of the novels will happen during class. However, some work with the novels will be done at home. I highly encourage students to read their AR book at home or during study hall. This will help reach your AR goal for the quarter. Vocabulary words will be assigned on Friday and due the following Wednesday. There will be a vocabulary quiz every Friday.
