2 New Deal Programs and legislation enacted by FDR
Promoted economic recovery and social reform The New Deal helped support the American people and the economy

3 Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt
President and first lady He served 4 terms He created the new deal Eleanor was Franklin’s “eyes and ears” They both associated with the people a lot

4 John Maynard Keynes A British economist who argued that deficit spending was needed to end the depression. According to Keynes, putting people to work on public projects put more money into the hands of the consumers. Consumers would buy more goods, which would stimulate the economy. Keynes called this theory ‘Pump Priming’.

5 Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
It preserves and promotes public confidence in the U.S financial by insuring deposits in the banks and thrift institutions for at least $250,000 It was created as a result of thousands of bank failures that occurred in the 1920s and 1930s. Since the start of the FDIC insurance on January 1, 1934, no depositor has lost any insured funds as a result of a failure.

6 Tennessee Valley Authority
Program developed under the New Deal Independent gov.t corporation managed by a board of directors Established transcending state lines

7 Civilization Conservation Corp.
A program that helped families after the depression. The program gave men 30 dollars a month & 20 of it goes to the family The money provided shelter, clothing, and food

8 National Recovery Admin.
Primary New Deal agency established by FDR in 1933 They wanted to eliminate “cut throat competition,” by bringing industry, labor and gov.t together in order to create codes of fair practices to set prices

9 Social Security Act An act that provided for the general welfare by establishing a system of Federal old-age benefits The act protected mainly the retired elderly who weren’t able to take care of themselves
