UNT officers are commissioned as peace officers under Texas Education Code and are certified police officers under the requirements of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
This gives all campus police officers at this institution authority and jurisdiction throughout Denton, Dallas, Cooke, Collin, and Tarrant Counties.

The University may not establish rules that generally prohibit license holders from carrying concealed handguns.
Institution has published the policy online at campuscarry.unt.edu.

the presence of which is not openly noticeable to the ordinary observation of a reasonable person.
Different weapon law requirements apply to off campus locations.
