3 The City of Dearborn Southeastern Michigan and the City of Dearborn is the home to the largest concentrated Arab population outside the Middle East (380,000 people) Many prefer to be referred to as American-Arab Dearborn has been home to American-Arab populations for many years. 1900’s people from all over moved to Dearborn due to the Ford Rouge Plant.

4 Community Policing Must build relationships on trust and communication. Become educated about your community and show, through action, your legitimate concern ensuring each community member has equal voice and is respected for who they represent. These actions result in trust. Trust results in communication. Communication allows police to be better at deterring crime, solving crime, and enlisting community support.

5 Community Policing The cornerstone of the Dearborn Police Department’s philosophy is communication, education and mutual respect. Everyone has an equal responsibility in contributing to a successful and safe community. Community Policing is “good policing” Altar Road example Home to 6 different religious institutions that seamlessly coexist as peaceful neighbors, working together contributing to the community.

6 Foster and Enhance Trusting Relationships with the Community
All members of the community must be included in decision-making and solutions to challenges that we face. Transparency in Crime Reporting Full disclosure to community whenever possible NIXLE, Crime Mapping, Twitter, Facebook, and Cable TV

7 Engage All Residents to Address Public Safety Matters Including Homeland Security
Formal and Informal Groups Police Interns, Police Explorers, Youth Academy Books and Basketball, Book Readings

8 Leverage Public and Private Stakeholders Force Multipliers
Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement Partners Shopping Malls Security Directors Hospitals Schools Railroads

9 Utilize All Partnerships to develop and foster community trust

After Action Report Chief Haddad stated in the press release, “I am solely responsible as Chief of Police for establishing the objectives and crime prevention strategies that the men and women of the Dearborn Police are tasked with to maintain the good order of the community. We will continue to carry out these tasks to ensure that Dearborn remains a safe and welcoming city for our residents and visitors alike.” Use of canine units for crowd control was strictly prohibited. “ONE TEAM ~ ONE MISSION ~ ONE DEARBORN”
