2 Who is the Holy Spirit (Karen)
•A person •A member of the trinity since the beginning •Before Christ He would often fall on individuals, now He is available to all who believe

3 WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT? A Person (John 14:17) He is God (1 Cor 6:11)

14 Baptism of the Spirit (Dan)
Baptism in the Holy Spirit is God’s goal for mankind -Bill Johnson

15 Foundations - The relationship of the believer with God was changed in Christ. The Holy Spirit is now available for all believers. Hebrews 6:2 "baptisms(s)" In water, necessary accompanying repentance. In suffering, participating in the nature of Christ, growing in Faith Into the body of Christ, we are participants in Christ (Ephesians 1:12 - seal, deposit, guarantee) When we hear the word, the Holy Spirit is convincing us, we repent and the Holy Spirit seals/sticks us. We are baptized leaving behind the old life and we surrender to the spirit of God to have His will done through me.

16 What is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
The baptism of the Spirit has nothing to do with salvation. Acts 8:14-16 The baptism brings power, different gifts for different people to minister to different needs. 1 Cor 12:3-7 This immersion in the Spirit a new level of intimacy and communion, but comes with a greater surrender and greater need to walk in holiness. Ephesians 4:17-31 *obstacles - some don't believe in the Holy Spirit. Process, we get discouraged by what we see / perceive being more real to us than what God’s Word declares in faith.

17 First we must believe in the promise and purpose
The Holy Spirit, sent with different missions since the beginning, was always part of God's plan (Acts 1:4-8), that we can be witnesses (those who testify) in power. Mark 6:8 - He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit Acts 2:38 - This promise is for you and your children *a gift we ask for In death he gave us salvation In resurrection he gave us new life In baptism he gives us power Matt 3: Christ's sequence: baptized in water, then the Holy Spirit descended

18 Second we must ask - Sealed, baptized and filled
Sealed (a stamp) • Ephesians 1: • 2 Corinthians 1: *Ralph's quote on pg of the Arrival Kit; "All that God has given me He provided at the cross, but that doesn't mean that I have received all of it" -Genesis 32:26 Baptized (a sponge) • Acts 1:4-5, Acts 10:44-48; • Acts 8: (verse 16 - the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon them)

19 Second we must ask - Sealed, baptized and filled
Filled (glass illustration - displacement) • Ephesians 5:18 (a continuous verb) • Acts 9:17 the laying on of hands • John 7: whoever is thirsty let him come to me and drink vs. John 4:13-14

20 Intimacy (relationship) with the Spirit (Karen)
•It is possible to grieve and to quench the spirit • It is possible to build one’s relationship with the Spirit –Pr. Izes’ Power Point be filled … –Chapter 11 – Father’s embrace “walking with the spirit” –Benny Hinn - Good morning Holy Spirit?

21 Works of the Spirit in sanctification (Dan)
The first power of the Spirit is a power to persevere and to crucify the flesh. If I won’t allow the Spirit dominion and authority over my own self, how can I expect to invite Him to manifest in situations around me? Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) Luke 17:21 - The kingdom of God is within you We can see this in the O.T - Nazarite vow (Numbers 6) - John the Baptist Samson (Judges 16:18ff) Saul (1 Samuel 16:13-14)

22 Works of the Spirit in sanctification (Dan)
Hebrews 12:14 - without holiness no one will see God 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12 “He who rejects this is not rejecting man, but God who gives His Holy Spirit to you” Romans 6, or the progression of 7-8. Spiritually the work has been provisioned for, but we need to cultivate and remain. 2 Cor 4:7-17 Romans 12:1-2 & 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 - We must ask the Spirit to show us where God’s word is not supreme. John 7: The goal is living water Personal testimony of overcoming addiction.

23 Gifts of the Spirit •In sermons after the retreat
