Christ Our Passover 1 Corinthians 5:6-8
3
I Corinthians 5:6-8 “Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth” (1 Corinthians 5:6-8).

Christ Our Passover A Sacrificial Lamb
5
A Sacrificial Lamb 1) Israel’s Passover lamb.
“Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb” (Exodus 12:21).
6
A Sacrificial Lamb 2) Our Passover Lamb.
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). “He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth” (Isaiah 53:7).

Christ Our Passover A Sacrificial Lamb Chosen By Father

Chosen By The Father 1) Israel’s selection of the lamb.
“Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household” (Exodus 12:3). “Tell the people of Israel that on the tenth day of this month the head of each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for his family to eat” (Exodus 12:3; CEV).
9
Chosen By The Father 2) Our Passover chosen by the Father.
“Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death” (Acts 2:23). “But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled” (Acts 3:18).

Kept For Inspection
11
Kept For Inspection 1) Israel’s inspection.
“Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household…Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight” (Exodus 12:3,6).
12
Kept For Inspection 2) Our Passover Lamb was inspected.
“Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness” (Luke 22:52-53).
13
Kept For Inspection 2) Our Passover Lamb was inspected.
“Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, said to them, “You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him” (Luke 23:13-14). “While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:5).

15
Without Blemish 1) Israel’s lamb a male free of blemish.
“Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats” (Exodus 12:5).
16
Without Blemish 2) Our Passover free from blemish.
“knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Peter 1:18-19). “Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth” (1 Peter 2:22).

18
Killed In Afternoon 1) Israel’s lamb slain.
“Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight” (Exodus 12:6). Twilight – “A masculine noun referring to evening, dusk; night. It is used consistently to indicate the close of the day, evening, sunset. The phrase lip̠nôt-ʿāreb̠, literally, the turning of the evening, means towards evening. The term bên hāʿarbayim means between the evening, that is at dusk or at twilight” (CWSD – OT).
19
Killed In Afternoon 2) Our Passover died in the evening.
“Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, “This Man is calling for Elijah!” Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink. The rest said, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.” And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit” (Matthew 27:45-50).

21
No Bones Broken 1) Israel’s instruction.
“In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones” (Exodus 12:46).
22
No Bones Broken 2) Our Passover no bones broken.
“Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken” (John 19:32-36; Quoted from Psalm 34:20).
