Character of Noah “Noah was a just man.” First man called so, although not the first one. The meritorious ground of justification is the blood of Christ – Romans 5:9. The instrumental cause of justification is faith – Romans 5:1. Noah’s faith was evidenced by him being “moved with fear” and obeying the command to build the ark.

10 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Character of Noah Noah was “perfect in his generations.” Noah and his family had kept themselves separate from the world. “tamim” – 44x in O.T. “without blemish” Word often used in connection with the unblemished lamb for sacrifice. The word “contaminate” has origins here. Noah was uncontaminated by the world.

11 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Character of Noah Noah “walked with God.” Just as his great-grandfather Enoch had Remember that this means that “two are in agreement.” Only when we walk with God are we kept from the evil around us.

12 Hebrews 11:7 (ESV) 7  By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

13 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Faith of Noah The ground of faith is the Word of God! “being warned of God” – Romans 10:17 It does not rest on feelings or fancy but hearing and responding in obedience – Luke 5:4-5.

14 Luke 5:4-5 (ESV) 4  And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5  And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.”

15 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Faith of Noah The ground of faith is the Word of God! “being warned of God” – Romans 10:17 It does not rest on feelings or fancy but hearing and responding in obedience – Luke 5:4-5. The sphere of Noah’s faith was beyond what was seen – 2 Corinthians 5:7. His faith laid hold of things “not seen as yet.” Faith is the eye of the spirit.

16 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Faith of Noah The character of Noah’s faith was “moved with fear.” Faith not only relies on the promises of God, but also on His threats. Spurgeon quote The evidence of Noah’s faith – “he prepared the ark” The issue of Noah’s faith – “prepared an ark to the saving of his house”

17 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Faith of Noah The witness of Noah’s faith – “by which he condemned the world” Faith is the opposite of sin – Romans 14:23.

18 Romans 14:23 (ESV) 23  But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.

19 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Faith of Noah The witness of Noah’s faith – “by which he condemned the world” Faith is the opposite of sin – Romans 14:23. What then is sin – 1 John 3:4?

20 1 John 3:4 (ESV) 4  Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

21 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Faith of Noah The witness of Noah’s faith – “by which he condemned the world” Faith is the opposite of sin – Romans 14:23. What then is sin – 1 John 3:4? Sin is more than an act; it is an attitude! The reward of Noah’s faith – he “became heir of the righteousness which is by faith”

22 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Noah as a Type of Christ Noah’s name “rest” foreshadows Christ. Noah alone finds “grace in the eyes of the Lord.” Noah is a just (righteous) man – a righteousness imputed to him by God. Noah was “perfect in his generations” – meaning uncontaminated by the sin around him.

23 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Noah as a Type of Christ Noah “walked with God.” God gave Noah an honoring work to do. Noah alone did the work. Noah’s work brought blessings to all creation, not only to his house but also to the animals. All creation is beholden to Noah. Noah provided all that is necessary for creation to be sustained.

24 Walking With God in Grace Genesis 6:5-10
Noah as a Type of Christ Noah obeyed God in all things. Noah brought forth safely all of creation saved by the ark. Noah offered sacrifice to God at the end of the journey. Noah and his sons became covenant people.
