PALM SUNDAY 2017 St. Peter’s Anglican Church & Revelstoke United Church For those who wish to, we are gathering outside the MacKenzie Ave. doors to process into the church with palms for the first hymn. Otherwise, feel free to wait inside.

2 PROCESSIONAL HYMN Please stand
VOICES UNITED 123 “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna” Ellacombe Words: Jenette Threlfall(1873) Music: Gesangbuch der Herzogl. Hofkapelle (1784)

3 Hosanna, loud hosanna the happy children sang; through pillared court and temple the joyful anthem rang; to Jesus, who had blessed them close folded to his breast, the children sand their praises, the simplest and the best.

4 From Olivet they followed ‘mid an exultant crowd, the victory palm-branch waving, and singing clear and loud; the Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state, content that little children should on his bidding wait.

5 “Hosanna in the highest
“Hosanna in the highest!” That ancient song we sing, for Christ is our redeemer, earth, let your anthems ring. O may we ever praise him with heart and life and voice, and in his humble presence eternally rejoice!

18 Gospel Reading Luke 19: 28b – 40
Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem Jesus went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it.’”

19 Gospel Reading Luke 19: 28b – 40
So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They said, “The Lord needs it.” Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying,

20 Gospel Reading Luke 19: 28b – 40
“Blessed is the king     who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven,     and glory in the highest heaven!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.” The Gospel of Jesus Christ. RESPONSE: Praise to Christ the Word.

45 “Ride On, Ride On, the Time Is Right”
HYMN Please stand VOICES UNITED 126 “Ride On, Ride On, the Time Is Right” Ride On Words and Music: John L. Bell (1988)

46 Ride on, ride on, the time is right: the roadside crowds scream with delight; palm branches mark the pilgrim way where beggars squat and children play.

47 Ride on, ride on, your critics wait, intrigue and rumour circulate; new lies abound in word and jest, and truth becomes a suspect guest.

48 Ride on, ride on, while well aware that those who shout and wave and stare are mortals who, with common breath, can crave for life and lust for death.

49 Ride on, ride on, though blind with tears, though voiceless now and deaf to jeers. Your path is clear, though few can tell their garments pave to road to hell.

50 Ride on, ride on, God’s love demands
Ride on, ride on, God’s love demands. Justice and peace lie in your hands. Evil and angel voices rhyme: you are the man and this the time.
