3. Leadership
In order to encourage your child to become a leader, there will be numerous opportunities provided for him/her to develop their leadership skills. Ambassadors will be chosen each month based on the 8 Habits, as well as Leaders of the Week. The students chosen will be asked to take on various leadership roles within the school and also in the community.
The 8 Habits that we focus on at North Jackson are as follows:

Be proactive (take action and be responsible)
Begin with an end in mind (consciously plan out and visualize your actions)
First things first (set priorities and carry them out)
Think win-win (in negotiation, seek solutions that help both yourself and the other person)
Seek first to understand, then be understood (in communication, listen actively before you talk)
Synergize (in work, open yourself to others to work effectively in teams)
Sharpen the Saw (relax, rejuvenate, and revitalize yourself)
Find Your Voice (examine your natural talent, what you absolutely love to do, what interests you)

6. Morning Homeroom Procedures
Habit 1: Be Proactive!
Enter the room quickly and quietly.
Voice Level -0
Take care of morning duties. (bus notes, notes from parents, make lunch choice, etc.)
Voice level- 1
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind!
Prepare for morning class. (folders, agendas, homework, books, sharpened pencils, paper, etc.) Voice level- 1
Check board for Morning Message and work quietly at your desk until it is time to be dismissed. Voice level- O

7. Afternoon Procedures
Habit 1: Be Proactive! Habit 3: Put First Things First!
Prepare all necessary books and homework assignments and place in backpack to go home. Check the board for any messages.
REMINDERS: Mondays-Take home Monday Message Folder and get signed. Thursdays-Get your agendas signed.
Habit 6: Synergize! Clean out your desk and the area around your desk of all trash. (Even if it is not yours!)
Habit 3: Put First Things First! If you have a class job, complete it at this time.
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw! You may AR read at your desk until dismissal. Voice Level must remain at Level 1.

Dismissal Procedures
“Show me you are ready to leave the classroom.”
*Voice level should immediately go to zero.
*Stand and push in your chair.
Voice level- O
*Gather all of your supplies and hold them in your arms.
*Look at the teacher and wait for the signal to be dismissed. (The teacher will point to the side of the classroom that will exit first.)
*When given the signal, walk quickly and form a single file line as you leave.

9. Agenda
Students will be responsible for completing their agendas on a daily basis. This is to help you to stay organized and to stay on top of all assignments.
The agendas will be used as one form of communication between teachers, students, and parents.
You MUST write daily homework assignments and assessments in agenda!

10. Grading
Several grades will be taken throughout the nine-week period. Assessments will count as 75% of the final grade and classwork/homework will be averaged and accounts for 25%. The following scale will be used: A B C D

A midterm report will be sent home in the middle of the nine-week period to let your parents know how well you are performing in class.

11. A grade of zero is not an option!
Homework
We believe that homework is necessary for practicing skills and it is an important part of a quality education. Homework assigned in my class will be used as practice or review of the skills that have been learned in class.
Homework will be assigned if class work is not finished at school.
Homework will be assigned on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday unless otherwise necessary.
It should never take more than one hour to be completed.
We expect all homework and class work to be turned in on time.
Feedback will be given on all work assigned.
Parents are encouraged to assist in homework completion.
A grade of zero is not an option!

12. Assessments
We will be using various forms of assessments throughout the school year. Some of these include: 1. Open responses/Extended Responses 2. Multiple choice exams 3. Oral exams 4. Performance-based assessments/Labs You will be informed well in advance when an assessment will be given. Each time we have a test, a copy will be sent home in the Monday Message Folder. This is to keep your parents informed of how well you’re doing in class. There will also be times that we will ask for the exams to be signed and returned to school. We like to keep samples on file.

13. Monday Message Folders
Monday Message Folders are a means of communication between school and home. Every Monday, you will bring home a folder and inside, you will find graded work and other forms of correspondence. There will also be a sheet for your parent to sign, indicating that they had a chance to review the contents of the folder. All papers should be removed from the folder, and it should be returned by Wednesday. Please be consistent with this routine. You will receive a conduct mark if the folder is not returned/signed by Wednesday.

14. No Drama & Complaining Zone!!
Drama: We do not tolerate drama of ANY kind!
Complaining: Life is too short to spend it unhappy! We are all blessed to have the privilege of attending this wonderful school! Find something positive to say each day
