1 Topic: Producers & Consumers
Essential question: What are the different types of producers & consumers?

2 Producers (P) Also known as autotrophs, have the ability to make their own food from the abiotic environment, using light energy from the sun. This process is called photosynthesis. Almost all biological activity on earth comes directly or indirectly from producers.

3 Consumers Also known as heterotrophs,
must obtain its food and energy from other organisms.

4 Primary Consumer (1C) Also known as a heterotroph, and receives its energy directly from the autotrophs (Ex: plants). Example:_________________

5 Secondary Consumer (2C)
Also known as a heterotroph, receives energy either from primary consumers or producers. Usually 2 C are your carnivores or parasites. Example: _________________

6 Tertiary Consumer (3C) High on the food chain and gains energy from producers, primary and/or secondary consumers. Example: ____________

7 Decomposers Break down the organic matter accumulated in the bodies of other organisms. It gains energy from the remains of organisms. Example: bacteria and fungi
