Global Circulation/Winds
The Earth’s surface is unevenly heated – the equator receives more light energy from the sun than the poles. Because the troposphere (where weather and climate occur) is heated by the Earth’s surface, the uneven heating of Earth’s surface means that the troposphere is also unevenly heated. The uneven heating of the troposphere creates convection within the troposphere.
