How many requests does the Lord’s Prayer contain?
- Hallowed be your name - Your kingdom come - Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven - Give us today our daily bread - Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors - Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one

2. Prayer is first about God then about us! We spend most of our time praying for our needs and very little time praying about God’s name, kingdom and will. But this is NOT how Jesus taught us to pray!
12
Praying … Hallowed be your NAME
“hallowed” = “to be set apart”; “to be honored” When we ask God to “hallow his name” we are asking God to work in such a way that he receives the honor that is due his name! Psalm 115:1 Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory.
13
Praying … Your KINGDOM come
Through conversion Colossians 1:13-14 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
14
Praying … Your KINGDOM come
Through commitment Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
15
Praying … Your KINGDOM come
Through consummation 1 Corinthians 15:23b-24 Then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. Revelation 22:20b Come, Lord Jesus.
16
Praying … Your KINGDOM come
- Praying for the conversion of the lost - Praying for the commitment of God’s people - Praying for the consummation of the ages
17
Praying … Your WILL be done SO why does Jesus include this?
This almost seems redundant. In praying that God’s name be honored and his kingdom advanced – we are already praying that God’s will be done here on earth! SO why does Jesus include this?
18
Praying … Your WILL be done
Isaiah 53:6a We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way. Luke 22:42 Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.
19
Praying … Your WILL be done
How often do we rush into God’s presence – being quick to make our demands or offer up our requests while giving little thought to God’s will? Hey God! My sore back Better job My marriage Joe’s surgery My relationship with my mother-in-law

3. When it comes to asking Abba, make it your practice to ask on behalf of others before asking for yourself!
22
Ask on behalf of others before asking for yourself!
Matthew 6:11-13 Give me today my daily bread. 12 Forgive me my debts, as I also have forgiven my debtors. 13 And lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from the evil one.

Matthew 6:11-13 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
24
Ask on behalf of others before asking for yourself!
Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
25
“Tell the general that I prayed for him last night like I have never prayed for myself.”
(Robert. E. Lee)
26
Ask on behalf of others before asking for yourself!
Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

37
Give us this day our daily bread . . .
Jesus teaching us we need to pray and ask God to meet our daily needs (and the needs of others!) When we fail to ask God to meet our needs, it shows that we are in reality relying on ourselves and what we can do, rather than by faith, humbly depending upon God and what he can and will do!
38
Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors . . .
Isaiah 53:6a We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way. Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
39
Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors . . .
The sign of a truly forgiven heart is one that readily forgives others! If a person has been graced by God it will show in how he or she graces others!
40
Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors . . .
“You and I deserve hell. We were hopeless, helpless, and heavenless. But now we have life, redemption, forgiveness and glory. If our lives are still marked by bitterness, grudges, and thoughts of retribution, we just don’t get it. You haven’t understood forgiveness until you’ve given it away.”
41
Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors . . .
Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. “You haven’t understood forgiveness until you’ve given it away.” (Kevin DeYoung)
42
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the Evil One
Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 1 Peter 5:8-9a Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith.
