Find the density of the block of wood.
Finding Density A block of wood has a length of 2 cm, width of 5 cm, height of 8 cm. The mass of the block is 20 g. Find the density of the block of wood. Mass = 20 g Volume =2 x 5 x 8 = 80 cm3 Density = 20 / 80 = 0.25 g/ cm3

Graph Reading and interpreting
There will be a few questions on the test where you will need to read a graph and interpret the data on it. See the next slide for an example.

Table to read Substance Density g/cm3 Density g/cm3 Wood (solid)
Pyrite (solid) 5.02 g/cm3 Ice (solid) 0.93 g/cm3 Zinc (solid) 7.13 g/cm3 Water (liquid) 1.00 g/cm3 Silver (solid) 10.5 g/cm3 Aluminum (solid) 2.7 g/cm3 Mercury (LIQUID) 13.55 g/cm3

Essay questions There will be two essay questions on the test that are both worth 4 points. In order to get all 4 points, students must show mastery of the terms. A definition will not be good enough. I expect more than just what the word means. These are the 2 essay questions: What is matter? What is density?
