4 Our Department The Department of Global Health was created in 2004.
GH faculty are based here at the COPH and at the Interdisciplinary Research Building (IDRB). The Global Health Infectious Disease Research (GHIDR) team are based at the IDRB. 10,000 sf BSL-2 space; 4,000 sf BSL-3 space; 4,000 sf insectary

6 Archivum What is it? It is the home of a suite of applications that will support our College community’s academic and business processes. Why do I care?  As time passes more and more academic processes will be housed in Archivum- program of study, special project contract, etc. Visit the homepage to see updated release notes/features.

7 Contract Courses Independent Study, Special Project, Supervised Field Experience, Thesis, Specialized Study, Directed Research and/or Dissertation. There are special registration requirements in the semester which you enroll for a contract course. Please review the requirements prior to meeting your mentor and obtain their guidance and signature as needed.

8 Field Experience 8 weeks domestic or abroad
Attend Fall 2016 Poster Debriefing Session- Tuesday, November 29th Domestic: (FE) 3 credit hours Global Communicable Disease Global Disaster Management, Humanitarian Relief and Homeland Security Infection Control International: (IFE) 6 credit hours Required for Global Health Practice, optional for other concentrations Hub sites: Ecuador, Malaysia, Panama and Uganda If you are interested to complete an IFE you should plan to meet with Mr. Jesse Casanova by the second semester of your first year in the program.

10 Special Project Performed in the final semester of the program
Your Special Project is considered a culminating experience to utilize the knowledge and skills gained in the classroom to develop a scholarly product The topic will be determined through consultation with your faculty mentor and should be relevant to your long-term goals. Submit contract for review/approval by your faculty mentor via Archivum

11 Thesis and Dissertation (MSPH and Doctoral students only)
Guidelines for the Thesis and the Dissertation adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the USF Graduate School. For further clarification and directions specific to our Department view the “student resources” tab on the department of Global Health website.

Financial Assistance for USF College of Public Health graduate students traveling to present research or practice at a local, state, regional, national or international professional meeting / conference. MPH/MSPH $750 domestic/international DrPH/PhD $1,500 domestic/international

16 GA and GRA Appointments
State funded positions to assist with a class (GA) A call for applications will be distributed early in the semester prior to appointment Typically include an in-state tuition waiver (9/9/6) and hours per week Precedence in selection will be given to doctoral students. Research training Opportunities (GRA) Will gain valuable experience with COPH faculty member Typically include a tuition waiver, hours per week Must have some level of research experience – laboratory, field or population based research Volunteer to gain experience!
