My Intro – (show of hands how many new captains and coordinators) By the end of this presentation you will understand why we focus on giving a Penn, What the Penn’s Way campaign goals are, and what resources you have available to help achieve our Penn’s Way Fundraising goal. Why do we focus on giving? What is Penn’s Way? What is the Goal? What resources are available?

Giving back is part of our Penn Mission
Why do we focus on giving - At Penn, we are dedicated to improving the health and well being of others and we take pride in this commitment to serve. This dedication is illustrated in the work we do everyday and through the time and energy we give to many organizations and causes throughout the year. Some of which are featured on this slide.
4
What is Penn’s Way? So it makes sense that Penn’s Way is the largest annual workplace giving campaign in the region! This campaign acts as the conduit which enables the employees of the University of Pennsylvania & Penn Medicine to join forces to contribute to the organizations we care about and achieve our missions. Penn’s Way is about you and your co-workers, its about coming together to support the organizations you care about
5
Quick Exercise: Why do you give?
Penn’s Way captains are leaders and champions of giving at Penn. Taking on this role is no easy feat. This exercise will help energize you and help you motivate others during the campaign. Bring to mind your reason for giving back. On small piece of paper write down how it makes you feel when you support that reason. I encourage you to share this story with your co-workers whenever you need to. By focusing on this feeling and your reason for giving, it will help increase your energy during the campaign. My story as an example: I support the Crones and Colitis foundation through Penn’s Way because when I was 24, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, a very painful disease. Giving back to this organization makes me feel empowered because I know I am contributing to their mission to improve the quality of life of children and adults, like me, who are affected by Ulcerative Colitis. Now its your turn. Take a few minutes to think of the reason why you are passionate about giving back and write down one word for how that makes you feel. Think of one reason you give back Write down one word for how it makes you feel when you do something to support that reason

Where We Give, By Organization
Almost, any cause you are passionate about can be supported through the Penn’s Way campaign. As you may already know, in addition to the many organizations we have mentioned already, there are over 5,000 other organizations that Penn’s Way enables us to contribute to. These organizations fall under 3 different umbrella organizations, Penn Medicine, PAC (what was previously know as the CRF) and United Way. United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey Founded in 1921 Philadelphia Alliance for Change (PAC) - NEW Center for Responsible Funding - CRF Additional organizations Penn Medicine All HUP, PPMC, and PAH Donations Abramson Cancer Center Joan Karnell Cancer Center Scheie Eye Institute The Bernett L. Johnson, Jr. Sayre Health Center Wissahickon Hospice

Highlights of the United Way
As mentioned, one of the major organizations that helps support the Penn’s Way initiative is United Way. However, there are often questions about what other activities the United Way is involved in, besides acting as a global host for work place giving campaigns. Therefore, it is important for us, the Penn’s Way Champions and Captains, to educate others on some of the activities the United Way supports through our shared mission of giving. These programs are partially supported by United Ways administrative fees. For more information on these campaigns please visit the Penn’s Way Website and the United Way Website. In addition to being a host for workplace giving campaigns, the administrative fees, support these programs: 2-1-1 Hotline – helps people find temporary shelter & disaster relief (Hurricane Harvey) Back-packathon Program Girls Mentoring Program Day of Caring – Oct 14th Leadership Step Up Program Impact Fund investments (Education)

Your Donations Matter! Sound cut off! And the Donations we make to the United Way and UPHS really make a difference. In the last 10 years alone, the Health System has raised over 5 million dollars. Some of those funds were distributed back into the health system in order to support the patients and families we care for. A great example of this are the funds that contributed to the sleep sacks. Last year those funds allowed us to purchase 1,000 sacks for the infants we care for and who may not have them otherwise! Last year we raised almost $180,000 for UPHS patients & families! From these funds ~1,000 sleep sacks were purchased for newborns, 300 Pack and Plays and 60 car seats and more

The Power of One (Dollar)
Why We Need You… In conclusion, now you know why we focus on giving at Penn, our shared goal for the Penn’s Way campaign, and the tools you have available to you to help reach them. As you can see we cannot achieve our mission without you, really, without each other. When we come together we can make a huge impact. If you and every captain encouraged all of their team members to give only one dollar, per pay period, we would raise almost $800,000! Our challenge for you is to have everyone on your team donate or participate in this years Penn’s Way Campaign, because your work in this campaign will make a difference! The Power of One (Dollar) $1 per pay period ($26/year) 82% participation rate 35,000 employees x x $746,200 93% of our $800,000 health system goal
