2 Pool Safety Patrol The Pool Safety Awareness Campaign is not intended to replace the work being conducted by City Health Department OR Is it certifying pools as safe. Residents and commercial sites voluntarily have their pools inspected

3 7 Strategies Obtain listings off all permitted pools (residential and commercial) –completed Use Submersion Incident Data from Trauma LINK to identify high rate zip codes – pending Use pool permit list to identify neighborhoods with the highest number of pools – completed Coordinate with Trauma LINK Members to create a check list based on law and safety devices – in draft form  Coordinate with Trauma LINK Members to create a door hanger type brochure to be left on identified locations – in draft form Launch Volunteer Pool Inspection Program in identified neighborhoods (high incident or large pool volume) – pending Report findings to Trauma LINK for data collection - pending

This is voluntary and will include an inspection of your pool, suggestions on safety features, and will address corrections that could be made to fencing and water hygiene in regards to city ordinances. Remember, Adults Can Follow Easy Precautions. improves the outcome. Have a phone near the pool in case of an emergency. Children Teach children swimming lessons AS WELL AS water safety skills. Never leave children under the supervision of older siblings < 15 years of age. Do not rely on “floaties” for safety; they may deflate or slip off, especially in deep water or with sunscreen. Fencing Pool must have self-closing and self-latching gate. Fencing must enclose the pool and be located between the back door and the pool. Lock windows and doors leading outside, preferably with childproof locks. Equipment Boulders, large items, and slides can be dangerous. Cleaning devices that have large appendages (creepy crawlers) must be removed once their purpose is achieved. Anyone can be electrocuted if electrical devices are kept within splashing range of water. An alarm should be placed on either the pool or backyard door so that the supervisor may be aware of their children’s location (only if house makes up 4th wall) Keep a ring buoy, with rope attached, near the pool for lifesaving purposes.
