“Ubuntu [...] speaks of the very essence of being human[...] A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, They do not feel threatened that others are able and good,  for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs to a greater whole and is only diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed, or treated as if they were less than who they are.” 

3. Remember, the first and great command from Deuteronomy 6:5 is
Our blue light shines with prayers for healing for all who struggle with AIDS.
Our light amid barbed wire shines with prayers for healing and freedom
for all with chronic illness, severe pain, and under oppression,
and for all who suffer from spread of violence.
We always light a candle in prayer for Shalom,
the fullness of peace and well-being.
The opening -
Remember, the first and great command from Deuteronomy 6:5 is
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.
We better understand what this means as we affirm
God is love and those who dwell in love dwell in God.
So we affirm this great word of command with the second like onto it -
You shall love your neighbor as you love yourself.
We have no weightier words of devotion or instruction to guide us
in the living of our lives, the quiet of our own inner reflection,
and the public engagement of the challenges, frustrations, terrors and brokenness
of our world.
Follow me, he said, and this sums up our command.
